What continent are you from?

  1. Americans are told there are like 6 to 7 continents, being the American continent split in two.

    Really? Didn't know about that...
Another info into my 'useless knowledge but interesting' folder XD

    Me : Europe...
    Middle-Europe( or Central-Europe, however you call it^^ )...
    From a country noone really gives a sh*t about^^U
    Not even it's own population...XD
We have a 'born with' pessimism, the whole country is EMO like hell - whine about everything > >
( Though the map below kind of shows a reason - still, being the most EMO country in the area is not a good reputation^^U )

At least in Hetalia my country is a cawaii bishoujo XD

    ( Btw...Kyaaa, such a cute Yeti!! I wanna have one too!! o><o )

For example; in mine’s people is told there are 5 continents: America, Africa, Europe, Asia & Oceania (Australia, New Zeland, etc). As far I know, Americans are told there are like 6 to 7 continents, being the American continent split in two. So, in some geography Mexico is part of “South America” while in others is part of “North America”. So I’m not sure anymore in what fucking continent I live.

México is part of North America, then there's Central America and then South America

México is part of Iberoamerica though, and part of Latin America [different ways of distributing the continent, yet America is only ONE Continent, we're all American in this part of the world, and the people from the US should get a propper name... like United Statians or something XD]

Knew a few people from Chile too.

And hasegawamiki: you were taught the same geography I was. But for most of United States “Americans” from Mexico and “below” it’s all South America.

  8. Chileans everywhere, lol

Shikaku: it doesn't matter what "USians" think about it, I mean, the Equator is the center of the globe as we put it on maps, and Mexico is absolutely @ north

  9. Agree with you hasegawamiki; but well, I just said before the “USAians” here starting to complain that we aren’t in the same subcontinent.

Sorrior, thanks to confirm that people in America are thought there are 7 continents. Can you explain what did you say about dates? Because I only know that AC, DC system…

Well we were taught A.D. B.C. nod D.C. but my sister came back from college saying something about how After death wasn't pc so they changed it

    Here's something from wikipedia.

The Gregorian calendar, and the year numbering system associated with it, is the calendar system with the most widespread usage in the world today. For decades, it has been the unofficial global standard, recognized by international institutions such as the United Nations and the Universal Postal Union. It is also a basis of scholarly dating, though some people adopt the Common/Christian Era labels, retaining the same numeric values but using the label "CE" (Common/Christian Era) instead of "AD", and "BCE" (Before the Common/Christian Era) instead of "BC".

    Common Era
    Main article: Common Era

Anno Domini is sometimes referred to as the Common Era, Christian Era or Current Era (abbreviated as C.E. or CE). CE is often preferred by those who desire a term not explicitly related to Christian conceptions of time. For example, Cunningham and Starr (1998) write that "B.C.E./C.E. …do not presuppose faith in Christ and hence are more appropriate for interfaith dialog than the conventional B.C./A.D." Upon its foundation, the Republic of China adopted the Western calendar in 1912 and the translated term was 西元 (lit. Western Era). Later, in 1949, the People's Republic of China reiterated the use of the Gregorian calendar and accepted the term gōngyuán (公元, lit. Common Era).

Anyways yeah so soem poepl have started bitching and now at some schools their teaching this kinda like how at some U.S. schools they went crazy to be pc and now say columbus was a demon who spread disease on purpose heh. He may not have been the first to get to america he may not have been the best person but blaming him for diseases he couldn't have known he was spreading really.

Exactly. Mexico is part North, part Central America. USA are dumb. ^_^

It's the same seven here in Europe.

If someone counts North and South America as one continent, then Europe, Asia and Africa are one as well. That's Bullshit.

Central America is not a continent. It is a geographic region apart of North America. Only North America and South America are continents. Ibero-America is a collection of former Spanish and Portuguese colonies in the Americas. It has nothing to do with continental designations but has only to do with obsolete political claims. Latin America is officially French, Spanish, or Portuguese speaking nations south of the US so it is a purely culturally based designation. It has nothing to with determining continents.

And again it looks like a political designation.

In my elemental school geography class we were told that a “continent” is just a big agglomeration of land, separated from other by rivers or sea.

So it seems kind of racist (to Latin-American standards) that Americans divide the continent in two because they feel the English speaking countries of America deserve a continent of their own. If the North America/South America division where from Alaska, to Panama it would make some sense, because there is a “crack” in the continent thanks to the Panama Channel.

  15. North America consists mostly of countries that don't speak English as their native language.

    North America
The northern continent of the Western Hemisphere, extending northward from the Colombia-Panama border and including Central America, Mexico, the islands of the Caribbean Sea, the United States, Canada, the Arctic Archipelago, and Greenland.

Many are not going to like the inclusion of Greenland but remember Greenland is only culturally European which is why it many times gets lumped with Europe.

Europe, Asia and Africa are connected and still three continents. ^_^
