  1. Would anyone have any ideas for some anime I'd like? The only two I've seen that I really enjoyed are Neon Genesis Evangelion and Blue Gender. I don't like any Gundamn, either, before any of that gets mentioned >_> Mechs are cool, but mechs alone aren't enough to make me gasm =/ Monsters are preferable and gore is fine. I like explicitness.

  5. Ga-Rei Zero looks interesting. I'd prolly watch Black Lagoon just 'cuz it looks piratey and I'm an [online] pirate >_> I was also told to check out Elfen Lied before, but I was too lazy to actually start watching it. It was cool from the bit I checked out, though. I'll prolly get it at some point.

Is it possible to outline particular genres of anime you love?

What's there to like in it?

    Sheryl!
    and Ranka's silly songs :P

To the OP, Gantz has monsters and gore, no mech's (do eva's even qualify as mechs? they're not mechanical).. but it does have a naked guy in a metal ball!

  12. Berserk has a lot of hardcore action. Plenty of monster killing/epic battle scenes.

  13. I'm surprised nobody said Code Geass... mecha in there, though it's more focused on the story.

Higurashi no naku koro ni & Higurashi no naku koro ni - Kai... blood & gore's present... a psychotic thriller in a sense, though not to the point of being scary... very interesting anime nevertheless.

And yes, Elfen Lied, especially if you liked the parts you've seen. Keep in mind, there is nudity (no sex), violence, and a ton of gore. Not a bad story either, though the anime's inconclusive. Have to follow the manga if you really want to finish the story.

  14. Yea, I've tried watching Code Geass, I couldn't really get into it. I need something more than just mechs, like monsters thrown in there. Evas aren't really mechs, yea, but lots of people think they are, and they're thrown into the Super Robot Wars, too. Prolly part of the reason I love NGE so much is that the Evas aren't just mechs, they're monstery things o.o

For Elfen Lied, I saw the first episode I believe. It was pretty cool =]

As for particular genres, I have no idea really, I don't really know anime genres. I guess horror, if that's a genre, since I like big scary monsters? That's really the only requirement, anything else thrown on top of that just makes it better. I love the hell out of Godzilla movies just because there are monsters in them, even though they're awful XD Blue Gender and NGE are really the only examples I know I can give, they're the only ones I really liked =/

    Also, call me retarded, but how do I upload an avatar pic? ._.;

  15. to clarify my Macross F vote, what does the series have?

    - mechs
    - hivemind aliens
    - amazing 3d cg for the battle scenes
    - likeable characters
    - great ship and world design
    - idols who know more than one song (it annoys me in anime when idols/pop stars only know one song... its supposed to be there fucking job, they release fucking albums!)

This forum, just like the comments feature on the front page, uses Gravatars. There may be a more traditional avatar upload system in the future, but in the meantime uploading a picture to Gravatar will get you your avatar.

As for your question, I can't be sure...I loved the two shows you mention liking too, but I'm a big generalist sort of otaku and I can enjoy pretty much every genre.

Macross F is nice, but I'm not sure it sounds precisely like what you're after. Give it a try anyway?

Rahxephon, while older, certainly does sound like something you'd like.

  17. Try this one's
    Ayakashi - Japanese Classic Horror
    Petshop of Horrors

Eureka Seven (alien covered in armor)
Xam'd: Lost Memories (hero turns much like Ben10 (XD))
Mars Daybreak (A merry band of pirates doing extremly reckless stuff. Thats what each anime does though eureka seven is in the air and mars daybreak's in the water.)

  19. So I'm watching RahXephon, and aftear hearing so much about it being a rip-off of, if not at least very similar to, Neon Genesis Evangelion, I've seen a lot of similarities and I'm only to episode six now. I thought it was funny how the person who does Asuka's voice in English is the same person who does Kim's voice in RahXephon >_>; That Reika chick also reminds me of Rei and Asuka combined. Quietness/enigmaticness of Rei, very similar dress to Asuka's and has brown hair like Asuka had, not to mention if you combined the names Rei+Asuka=Reika U_U I'm liking it so far though. Not as into it was NGE, but it's still good =]
