   THIS is the amazing image which could show the fabled sunken city of Atlantis.

   It shows a perfect rectangle the size of Wales lying on the bed of the Atlantic Ocean nearly 3½ miles down.

   A host of criss-crossing lines, looking like a map of a vast metropolis, are enclosed by the boundary.

   They seem too vast and organised to be caused naturally.

   The site lies 620 miles off the west coast of Africa near the Canary Islands - a location for Atlantis seemingly suggested by the ancient philosopher Plato.

   He believed it was an island civilisation sunk by an earthquake and floods around 9,700BC - nearly 12,000 years ago.

   The "grid" showed up on Google Ocean, a Google Earth extension that uses a combination of satellite images and marine surveys.

   Last night Dr Charles Orser, curator of historical archaeology at New York State University - and one of the world's leading authorities on Atlantis - called it "fascinating".

   He said: "The site is one of the most prominent places for the proposed location of Atlantis, as described by Plato. Even if it turns out to be geographical, this definitely deserves a closer look."

   there are a lot of cities underwater, it's not necessarily be atlantis. i like to think that our previous civilization are more advance than nowadays.

   and they wipe themselves out cause it's in human nature to destroy ourselves

   From MY understanding of the - "facts" - concerning and surrounding the fabled city of Atlantis...

   Isn't Atlantis shaped/formed as a central city circle, within concentric circle(s), which is surrounded by the water?

   Granted, (it could) be a small section of a city block... but, this image makes no sense.

    And where is this in relation to the Bermunda Triangle & the Bimini Road in the Atlantic? From what I know it's closer to those. What no one talks about is Lemuria which is also under water near Japan. They've found some of it's Pyramids under water though.

    Don't worry Atalntis will rise by 2050 or some.....much to the soggy discontent of the East Coast of US.

    Just because we don't know earlier civilizations doesn't mean they did not exist.

    For example the pyramids were built by the egyptians, right? Really? Then why can you find egyptian style pyramids in China and Canada?

    The canadian ones are especially interesting. They're in a lake that exists since the ice age ended 12000 years ago. Meaning they're at least that old - or were built by mermaids...

    But of course. According to Disney Atlantis was a civilization of ducks, in Lemuria were mice and Mu was a land full of fairy tale princesses. It's actually quite obvious that they are right. Right? ^_^

    You can find pyramids elsewhere, but these usually look quite different. That's why I wrote egyptian style. I don't remember the chinese building such structures. I could be wrong, though.

    I read that in a book years ago. It's still around... somewhere.

    IIRC the thing was discovered in a dry period. The water level went down and someone noticed the shadow down below. Divers said it's a big pyramid.

    You can google around if you want. If nothing turns up I'll have to search for that book...

    Atlantis was a giant spaceship from Mars.. their own planet had been damaged beyond repair countless years ago and many martians traveled to other planets outside our solar system, but a few martians had frozen themselves in a spaceship and landed on the Atlantic Ocean, waiting for the appropriate time to be woken up..

    and for a time after they woke up, they lived in harmony with the human species.. both benefiting from each other..

    However for some unknown reason they randomly left.. who knows where they are now..
