Quite a few other forums do it where the threads you post in are marked with an icon so you know which threads to go back to and you can check on replies more easily.

In principle I think it's a great idea of Artefact to combine the mainpage with the forum.
The problem is the forum getting flooded.
I read this thread and saw suggestions making sense. Well, here's mine. I think it makes the forum even better usable than before the merge.
I placed checkboxes above the topic list to mark categories you want to view.
Next is the forum list with "News" and "Galleries" added.
Now the view list should follow, but it was redundant with the checkboxes, so I got rid of it.

PS @ Artefact: The numbers I used in the forum list for "News" and "Galleries" are a wild guess. ^_^
PPS @ Artefact: Please add a search function. Tags, topics and users would be enough. Text search in posts would be nice.

When you first talked about integrating, I didn't understand the point of it and even now, still don't. but I don't want to talk about that. I want to know if your ever going to make a "regular" forum? You know, with similar formatting like Animesuki or Fakku. It would be nice to have subforums to separate the crap from other stuff.
What do you think about that?
Nother suggestion: The tags are pointless so long as there isn't a proper search function for them. Chris Hansen's been up in that tag cloud since I began, but I've never seen a singletopic let alone post or tag related to him. Given a proper search function, I'd make more of an effort to tag appropriatly - the tag cloud doesn't make sense, nor is it very useful.
As for integrating site and forum, I'm not really sure where it's heading but atm I don't see the point nor the benefit. A news article with comments and a random forum thread with posts are two different items yet combining the news article with a forum thread will end up flooring the forum with redundant information.
Before I started frequenting the forum, I just used to enjoy reading the news and trolling in the comments. Transferring that to the forums is just going to add alot of pointless spam (people write differently on news comments and forum posts) to the forums.
Also, it's hardly integrated because it's a one way street: news trolls into forum.
As I said, I don't yet understand the point of the whole thing. Maybe I'm missing something. It's an interesting idea but so far I'm not too keen on it.
Also the whole "posted by unregistered user x" is kinda annoying.
Another idea I just had, what's about a rating function (thumb up/down) for the news trolls? That way the funniest comments (could) end up at the top.

I support the encouragement of more mature discussions than perhaps what we've been having, but I personally think that the presence of "taboo" topics is one of the main strengths of this site. I come here because I can talk about things that don't fly most other places.
Furthermore, all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. And you can't get rid of the lolis. It's our bread and butter. >.<
And I also support separating (in some way) forum topics from main topics.

Although.. I don't really have a problem with the changes.. after all.. SanCom was originally meant to be a asian news/media website.. and recently the topics have been spiraling away from that.. and in the process probably caused a few people to leave.. >_>..

Err.. I noticed that you whenever you try to start a new sentence with a line break.. you need to use the html line break for it to work..
This happens when you are writing something in the forums.. and press enter it looks fine there, but when you look at the comment on the main site.. there will be no line break.. ~

I also agree, which is why I enjoy the Family Tree creation, and the contributions to it.
Its a way to generate a - "imaginary environ" - which (for many) wished they actually had.. and I support an active imagination.
Yes, (its true) we do have some threads that are - *just* - plain (fun) for some and in the same token are not what some want.
We have diverse eclectic povs, thoughts, and topics (on some subjects (taboo and non)) and that's what makes this site enjoyable and (for me) to always comeback and look forward to.
I say ~ Like anything new and improved.
We all ~ *just* ~ need to wait and see what will transpire with the changes made and what Artefact will do with the suggestions presented to him.
I (for one) know that not everything will happen overnight or instantly.
So, I am patient.
After all the shock (involved) because of the changes, I am sure (like) most of us, we will see improvements come-about.

I think this is as pointless as endless eight.(Hopefully Artefact uses Firo's Idea)
