Those plastic kits are made in big or huge amounts and are quite cheap. You still have to paint those yourself, though. This needs some more money - and skillz.

Ignis (Jinkai Chaos Gate) by Maxfactory
Ignis is a character from one of Nitro+'s games called 'Jinkai: Chaos Gate'. Nitro+ is mainly known for their eroges such as 'Saya no Uta', 'Demonbane' and 'ChaosHead'. Demonbane's key artist is back at work with Jinkai Chaos Gate and has produced another exotic heroine, Ignis.
One does not need to have played the game or know of the character to appreciate this figurine. I personally have not played the game and thus am unable to judge how well the figurine encapsulates its character. Therefore, this review will only cover aesthetic and practical concerns.
Dimensions:
Height: 23cm (25cm with ahoge)
Width: 17cm (base only), actually 23cm due to extended sword.
Base
The base is less plain than most. With the Chaos Gate logo and a reflective covering, it catches your eye momentarily, but has no real other feature. Being reflective, dust is easily seen and evident in a few weeks. The biggest issue with the base however is that it is not designed properly to support the figurine itself. The prongs are far too small and cause the figurine to lean forward. The temporary solution is to put something in the front of the base to put Ignis in a more neutral position. Naturally this may cause wear and tear and upset the balance.
Clothes
By far, this figurine ranks as one of the most well-crafted releases in my collection. A lot of thought has been given, especially how the wind plays across her clothes. This is evident in the lower body as they seem to be fluttering against the non-existent wind. An array of butterflies lined in white splash across the pieces of clothing while on the opposite side is a deep red that adds to contrast.

-See the white roses at the tail of the cloth? Also, see the butterflies at the front

-Bat Motif at the back and front
Working up, the torso too has plenty of detail. While in the pictures it may seem flat, every white lining is an extra surface and even the bats near her waist stick out. Small white rosebuds accent the ends of certain pieces of cloth. At her back another batwing design sticks out. I am not too sure why Ignis has such an affinity with bats. A firm outline of her buttocks add an extra level of sexiness alongside her ample breasts. Near her neck, the ribbon at the collar also sticks out as if was flowing in the wind.
Face

-Arg. Damn dust on her hair. The eternal battle.
When comparing the game art and the figurine, they are a near perfect match. If the art were to be transcribed to a 3D form, this would be it. The eyes are clear in their shades of purple, the facial structure is perfect from all angles. This is praise-worthy as it is extremely difficult to find a figurine that has a 360 consistency regarding the face. Its quite an alluring expression she had as well; lips slightly pursed in a small smile and matches the whole body language of the figurine itself.
Hair
The hair, for a figurine that was released 4 years back is outstanding. It flows with her clothes with enough separate strands to add volume. Her ahoge stands out clearly and is one of the clear signatures of this figure. Her ponytail is tied with a white bat motif, and just like in real life, more strands of hair fray at the motif. Admittedly though, given the length of the hair, at the back it seems too heavy and solid.
Misc
The sword that she wield is impressive. While designed to be a katana, the blade is a dark crimson red with runes running near the hilt.
Conclusion
This is one of Maxfactory's most impressive works. It encapsulates excellent posing, refined layers of detail, expression and despite its age, it certainly is a looker. The only downside to this figurine is the unstable base, but otherwise if you find the opportunity to find it, buy it straight away. Being a few years old makes this item quite hard to find on the open market as there are very few re-releases.

Canaan (Good Smile Company)
In a strange, but not entirely unexpected marriage between the local hit “428: In a Blockaded Shibuya’’, and TYPE-MOON came the special scenario “Canaan” which later developed into slightly necrophiliac, Tanaka-Rie-yandere anime season. Being full of action, passable Engrish, good military accuracy, a crazy-but-awesome idolising taxi driver and thankfully no whiny adolescent male characters, I was compelled to distribute my thanks other than using my bandwidth.
So I was grateful when Good Smile Company (GSC) were planning to release not one, but two figurines, of which the first I am to review. Enter ‘Canaan’.
Dimensions
20cm width x 15cm length x 20cm tall (including cloak and leaning pose)
Pose & Feel
The colour scheme has no real shine to it and has preferred to use matte colours such as red, brown, and beige. These colours do not scream for attention and that’s a good thing. With Canaan’s background suggesting that she’s a touch Arabic, alongside her fights in the desert, not having a colour in competition or clash with the matte hues was a wise choice. At closer inspection, the browns on the trousers darken across the folds. It’s a nice touch.
Specifics

-See the gradual darker browns on the curves?
Starting from the bottom up, its good, but nothing too exceptional. Its simple with small elaborations such as the line down the middle to give a stronger resemble of shape. What’s most impressive is the hem and the boots that Canaan wears. Flared at the ends due to unzipped ends, the zipper teeth are expertly coloured and do not trace over the brown of the trousers. You can run your finger down it to feel the bumps like a regular zipper does. The boots are nicely done with solid colour consistency, and the soles have regular grips like real ones do.

-Evident muscle tone on the back
Canaan as a genetically superior soldier needs to have some muscle tone which has been faithfully recreated in its plastic form. While it is not obvious by the looks of it, by using the sense of touch you can feel the biceps and sculpted back muscles.

-More delicate folds, even though Canaan hasn't got much of a chest
The red top, like the rest of the figurine is plain, but the folds are done very convincing, even though Canaan’s breast size is smaller than typical characters. Slightly darker red hues are used across the folds. Her necklace hangs in mid-air, as it should from such a position.

-Reminds me of the Fatboy Slim song
Canaan’s weapon of choice, a modded Beretta Px4 Type G is replicated with detail, to the modified lower grip. However, the hands holding it could have done with a little more care. I admire that her fingernails are a different colour. Attention to small details such as these are nice.
Expression

-Irises are clear and the nose isn't too angular. Smooth gradual finish
The expression is quite superb, given the possibility that it could have gone wrong easily. The sculpt is consistent from all angles and matches Takashi Takeuchi’s designs. The iris are clear without defects and the appropriate fierce expression doesn’t compromise any facial details. Special mention go to the mouth as the colours across the tongue and the inside have great colour graduation as well as definition. The teeth are on another surface and aren’t just ‘painted’ on.
If there’s anything I can criticise on, it’s definitely the hair. There’s nothing wrong with the actual designs; they’re fine. To give you the reason of my critique, I must direct you a release picture incidentally used by Good Smile:
Compare to real life...
The hair itself is deceiving in the photos. I have no idea what goes on in their factories; do small dogs chew the plastic moulds or their files are made from luxury silks? Why is it smooth there and mine bumpy across almost all strands? I know GSC can make great short hair, my Ryougi Shiki figurine proves it. A little bit more quality control please.
Now to the cape itself. It adds an extra element to the figurines dynamics and fills space to the left to make it less ‘empty’. The cape itself is rather plain but is masterfully coloured with darker browns between the folds. Being a large feature of the figurine, the shape is spot on. However, being full of twists and turns, the seams of plastic are pretty noticeable.
Conclusion
As a figurine, Canaan's main feature is the pose. Not many figurines are supported by a metal rod, a near inch off from the base. All this for the sheer lean to the right and the fluttering of a cape. It is of very good overall quality and the features such as the expression, and colour graduation are well done.
However, the figurine is not to everyone's taste. It isn't flashy with bright colours, it has little sex appeal and minimum moe factor. I will make the recommendation that if you like Canaan, this figurine will be a worthy purchase, but for those who let it pass with indifference, then you can give it a skip.
Am I the only one that got the BRS figure?
