Not really.. I personally find the second part of the story far more gripping than the first part ~ At the start I only continued to read it because I was amused by how he reminded me of Kira ~ but when when things began to change.. That is when it got interesting for me ~
If I remember correctly chapter 18 +..
edit. Ah sorry I didn't read your post properly.. ~ Yeah, I agree kind of ~ The death note similarity slowly dims down, but to me it shows how the guy is slowly changing/growing as the story progresses..
