So, I know this isn't a music site

  1. But I was wondering, since there's quite a bit of Japanese all over the place, does anyone know of any good Japanese bands/musicians/whatever? I figured you guys here would know more than just the handful of Japanese bands Americans know of.

Nightmare is like emo music i guess...

  5. I remember watching Hi Hi Puffy Ami Yumi o_O I totally forgot they even existed. Anyone know of anything more like metal-ish or along the lines of the GitS soundtrack? I love pretty much every song Ilaria Graziano was in in that soundtrack.

    Mmmh I like..
I'll just list the anime where I got the 'idea' from next to it.. unless it's not from an Anime.

    Galneryus - Mnemosyne
Ali Project - Mai Hime, Code Geass, Rozen Maiden, ton of others
Maximum the hormone - Air Master, Death note
    12012 -
Abingdon Boys School - D.gray-man I think, but found them cause they 'redid' the opening of Trinity Blood.. which was yet another cover :p (it's Linkin Park'ish)
    An Cafe -
    Blood -
    Deathgaze -
    Girugamesh -
    Phantasmagoria -
    Rize - Shion no ou

Most of that is Metal'ish, with the exception of Ali Project and Rize..
Oh and I bought the CD of chaos head cause I dig this song

Don't mind the Fes picture on the front of it either ;)

  12. ... i think we're missing an essential question here... what genre are you look for? rock? alternate? pop-rock? punk-rock? pop-punk? hardcore? post-hardcore? metal? death-metal? visual k? experimental? R&B? bossa nova? electronica?

if you want pop-based rock(s), most of those mentioned above are good.

Here are some relatively pure stuffs.

    post-hardcore: Maximum Hormone

alternate rock: ACID (disbanded <: 3)

alternate rock: NICO Touches the Walls

    post-hardcore + alternate: Zazen Boys

post-hardcore + alternate: Dir En Grey

pop-punk + pop rock: The Pillows

    Visual K: Malice Mizer (Old)

Indie + Experimental (various): Shinna Ringo

    R&B + Hip Hop + Urban: m-flo

    Indie + Experimental: IOSYS

    Electronica blend Bossa Nova: Capsule

R&B + Dance + Hip Hop + Pop: Koda Kumi

R&B + Hip hop + pop: Crystal Kay

    Indie: Love Psychedelico

There are many more independent / unsigned artists doing Touhou doujins or Vocaloid projects. I know a bunch of rocks, r&b, hardcore, alternative, less-popish ones among those.

I want some Touhou doujins similar to Silver Forest, and I also want some J-pop similar to those signed to I've. (you should know who these are, even if I don't give the full record label name.)

Also, anyone know who the Silver Forest vocalist is for this one? She's on a number of other's and she's really quite good...

Ah, Kotoko, a real life loli.

    And for good measure.

  14. OP is too vague for be to be helpful. It'd be as good as googling Japanese music. I could tell you what I like, but you might now like it, as we are indeed two different people with two different experiences.

Edit: Nevermind, I missed your second post. You like metal. This is very helpful.

For extreme metal, hoping you like this stuff because it's what I'm most knowledgable about. Try Kadenzza, Gallhammer, Blood Stain Child, Intestine Baalism, Sigh, ...

For non-extreme, Volcano is a very underrated band. So is Aphasia.

Also, if you're not one of those Deathcore hating purists, I suggest you make a stop on by to Slick Scratch's Myspace.

Posting the obvious link to Metalarchives.
    http://www.metal-archives.com/browseC.php?c=108

Also, if you're open minded enough to try ambient, screamy, ultra-distorted and almost folky hardcore, known by skramz, and the bit hated name screamo. Try Envy(so obvious and well known it's not even a helpful mention), Dipleg, Gauge Means Nothing, Nitro Mega Prayer, Nervous Light of Sunday, and There is a Light that Never Goes out.

Dipleg and There is a Light that Never Goes out being two of the most underrated and underground ones there. And Envy being the most obvious, known and mainstream one.
