    aren't we all?

AOL was so shitty, I remember we first got it because all of aunts and uncles had it, and my dad was (remains to an extent) very stupid when it comes look for products in Murrica, and understand that just because no one in your family has a product, doesn't mean is a ripoff or is not a good product.

We only had it for a couple of months, after I showed him a NetZero disk I've gotten, and since that was $9.99 a month compared to whatever ridiculous amount was AOL, we switched.

Anyway I remember free AOL CDs.

Did AOL actually get popular in Germany? I think nobody over here knows what it is. The first time I personally learned of it was when it was already in its dying phase.

  3. Watching Bob Ross paint happy little trees.
    All the episodes are there.

I was going to put the youtube link in YDT but the fucking spam filter seems to be interfering with my posts in it.

  4. Black & white analog television. When the channel knobs fell off, you'd use a pair of pliers to turn the stem to change channels & when either of the antennas (UHF or VHF) broke or fell off, you'd stick a metal clothes hanger on in it's place -- unless you were one of those people who ran wires from the from the roof-top antenna to the large television set in your living room.

Honestly, I don't know. Everyone I know was using T-Online (German Telekom) back then. I just remember that you got these CDs everywhere as a "free gift". But that's surprising for me that the Netherlands were spared. I always believed they spammend the whole world with their CDs.

One thing I remember about tech in Germany is that all the kids were using ICQ to talk to eachother. ICQ never got big over here. MSN Messenger was the way to go for IM in Holland. So when I had an exchange with a German school back in secondary school, a lot of kids downloaded the other program to be able to meet & greet online before the exchange. Fun times.

I also had the biggest trouble ever writing an email home when I was in Germany. Using that QWERTZ keyboard was doable after some practice, but WHERE IS THE DAMN @ BUTTON?!

    Isn't just altgr+v?
Why the hell does Dutch even have a QWERTY keyboard in the first place? Z is used like 30 times as much as Y...

    EDIT: Its altgr+q.

  14. When you bought a game you got the whole game and expansion packs meant new content vs being nicked and dimed with DLC and micro transactions.

    Fuck today's gaming industry.

Thank goodness we're not using QWERTZ over here. We don't even use Dutch as input language. There's a legacy Dutch input language, but I don't even remember when it was actually used. We use the international input, which is great because while Dutch is a pretty sweet language, nobody fucking speaks it. I think I type English more than I type Dutch.

That means you're using the US layout. European keyboards have " for shift+2 and it seems like a most Dutch people use the Dutch layout, hell there is an AZERTY based Belgian Dutch layout.
