Well I have been doing cardio (which brought it down, it used to be higher) and started doing push ups. Hopefully that will bring it down even lower. Does eating lots of greens help too?
Ah shit, now you're getting me started.
Well, I'll go ahead and give you the lowdown.
You want to follow a DASH type diet primarily which can reduce your BP by about 8-12 mmHg.
But remember, the main point in these diets is to reduce salt intake. You saying you want to eat greens is a good start, but eating greens is just to give you a low sodium type of sustenance. Be wary though, salt is everywhere and in great quantities when you eat out/warm up frozen food. You'll be doing a lot of home cooking if you want to fight high blood pressure with dieting. But that said, dieting is the most effective non-drug intervention for blood pressure.
Increased physical activity (mostly the aerobic kind) does modestly reduce BP (in the 5 to 10 range) and best of all, it helps with mortality! (not dying)
And although I know you're working on it, weight reduction is also important. 1 kg of weight lost means 1 BP cut short on average.
Realistically, I'd say your goal should be 120-130. That puts you out of the hypertension range and into "pre-hypertension".
