Paper. This is gonna seem like a lot, but just take it easy and go with what you find fun/comfortable.
The route you go down will depend on how much you wanna spend, but first, I really, really reccommend playing Duels of the Planeswalkers 2014 on Steam (don't get 2015, it's awful and 2014 is way cheaper). You'll learn how to play the game, and it'll give you a dumbed down and simple taste of MtG (it'll still be more complex than Hearthstone, though).
Once you've got the hang of the rules, and maybe watched a few videos online, you can try going to your local gaming store (LGS) for a "Draft". You won't need to take any cards with you, and you'll be able to keep the cards that you pick up. If you tell them it's your first draft, they'll help you out with how it works and everything. Alternatively, if that seems like a bit much, you can try picking up quick-start decks (which can be free, depending on the store) - like in the video below, and play with friends.
If you check with your local store, they usually have a schedule with at least one draft a week, if not more. If you have people to play with (especially new players), you can pick up some boosters to do your own drafts. It's easy enough to look up the simple drafting rules. Never just buy booster packs or boxes to open, though. It's a waste when you can use them to play and deck build as well, by opening them up in a draft instead.
Beyond drafting, you can look into building your own deck from scratch once you're more comfortable. As opposed to "Limited" formats like Drafting or Sealed Decks (which you can do in DotP 2014), "Constructed" is where you build your own deck (according to certain limits) and bring it in to play.

I'll play online for a bit, because that actually seems like a good idea when I think about it. There is a comic book, card and book shop near me (I used to buy my Yu-Gi-Oh cards there). So I'll go there when I get to that point. Thanks for the advice.

I feel so tempted to buy grand tourney packs for hearthstone
But I have no money. I wish I pre-ordered the packs so I could get them cheaper.
