What is bitcoin

Drugs don't need advertising and dealers don't need to get their product "out there".

No but they do need the middleman in this case and they had a very know quantity in silk road.

Also how much sensitive info was on the silk road servers? People going to jail are not always noble.

All you need to do is build it and people will come.

    True.

It works differently when you don't know who your rival is or even what country they live in.

DDOS attacks seem to be going around. Might be a concerned citizen, might be a rival. Either way customers get delayed in getting their drugs and the supplies lose money.

What information do you have about the revenue abut these sites whose existence you were unaware of until tonight?

Right back at ya. You are hardly a wellspring of knowledge on the subject.

It's a new and growing market. The pie has plenty of room to get bigger.

Again the pie is only so big and only grows so fast. If 1000 sites popped up tomorrow do you really think the market would expand with them? Of course not. The market will expand at a certain pace and start ups won't change that unless they market can't be served with existing sites.

    Fascinating.[quote]

Yes network security is fascinating. Not a hard concept.

[quote]Kill the pot guy and see how casual the user is afterwards.

Not sure how this is on point.

And those kind of people wouldn't have used any darknet site to buy drugs anyway. These sites cater exclusively to people who can't simply go and see the pot guy.

I will give you not likely the pot guy, but they could hit up a drug dealer. ToR allows they to buy stuff with relative anonymity.

What percentage of people buying stuff on the black market do it because they have to vs want to?

I have to wonder where you get you information from and why you seem so confident about it, because I get the distinct impression that you don't actually have a clue what you're talking about. Are you basing everything on some article you read on CNN?

I am getting the same impression. I have yet to see you say anything regarding the current state of the drug trade that is anything but opinion.

You really should have a few facts of your own, before you start to question other people on their facts.

BTW since we are busy pointing out who apparently doesn't know jack about something, how is you theory on asteroids and the small chunks being worse going?

At least I can acknowledge when I am wrong.

To quote a movie and modify it slightly "stupid conversation anyways".

The one big use i can see for it now is speculation. the whole "buy low/sell high" thing.

bitcoin mining needs specific equipment and a place with cheap eletricity for you to break even, forgetting the equipment cost.

Still, while it is easier and have less taxes than stock market, it's still a big gamble and you need to know what events really move the prices up and down or you're bound to lose a decent ammount of cash on any euphoric decision

Bitcoin mining essentially died for the average joe when the ASICs showed up. You are stuck with mining services now.

Bitcoin is just way too crazy to try and invest in.

Both drug dealers and users are surprisingly willing to deal with any middleman who isn't suspected to be a police officer.

That depends on how many people were stupid enough to not use encryption when they were told to.

Delayed by a few minutes? Who cares?

They'll keep pressing F5 until it's back. It makes no difference in the long term.

    Pyrolight said:

I don't claim to have knowledge about any of these sites' revenue. I know they exist, however, which puts me far ahead of you.

The market will expand at a certain pace until the existence of these sites becomes world news, which is what's just happened.

    Then say something about it.

You gave an example of someone who was "casual". I suggested that he wasn't actually casual.

    Who knows?

    Better ask them.

Please explain to me why I should give a fuck what you think?

An idiot who knows nothing about the subject being discussed thinks I give the impression of ignorance? Oh noes! What shall I do?

You're the one making the big claims. It is for you to provide facts. I have little faith in you doing that, since you know so little about the subject that you didn't even know there were any drug sites besides Silk Road that ever had a significant market. This is such a massive error that it makes it very hard for me to take anything you say seriously.

    Pyrolight said:

BTW since we are busy pointing out who apparently doesn't know jack about something, how is you theory on asteroids and the small chunks being worse going?

Again, oh noes! My analogy might not have been correct after all! I guess my argument comes crumbling down now.

That's what people say when they've lost.

  13. It's basically a crypto-currency that's very hard to trace, when used properly. As such, it can be used to buy illegal things online, like illegal drugs and weapons. But it is still traceable, so don't put too much faith into it.

  15. Bitcoin is a conspiracy created by energy suppliers to increase electricity use.

  16. I figure software and hardware developers in general are in on that conspiracy as a high end PC today uses a lot more power then one 10 or 20 years ago.
