Heroes of Cosplay Discussion

People like you, however, dont really understand how people who cosplay very frequently have come to the conclusion that really it isn't for other people. Not as much as it is for yourself.

Quite frankly, I find your speculation as to what I understand about it, as well as your use of the phrase "people like you" in reference to me highly offensive. I understand that far better than you apparently realize; you honestly know very little about me, my experiences, or my opinions on this particular, so I don't appreciate that you are acting as though you do.

And yes, I realize my reaction is disproportionate because of personal, sensitive issues related to the topic for me.

This show is going to be fantastic and I am extremely looking forward to it.

At this point, both takes on it are speculation as to the nature of a show as of yet unaired. We'll see what they do with it afterward. While I think it would be nice if it was everything you think it will be, I am far too pessimistic to hope for that.

Go cry. You made a comment about how cosplayers, if they are in places like Michigan, will get hit upside the head. Cosplayers dont care what other people think. Hit them upside the head. They will keep cosplaying. Someone who doesn't cosplay wouldn't understand how someone who does, does it for fun. Not for the sake of what other people think about them. So before you say my comment is rude, maybe take a step back and think about how you are trying to make a voice for cosplayers when you, yourself, are not avid. Are you? Are you an avid cosplayer who can honestly vouche for a whole state of cosplayers that they might as well not cosplay in states like Michigan due to how people see them? Cosplayers dont care. We do it for fun. Not for people to accept us.

  3. I'll fucking say it, American (even the ones that are asian) cosplayers are inferior to Japanese cosplayers.

....not caring about what others think and not caring about being assaulted are two entirely different things. I didn't realize you lived in the land of eternal sunshine and roses, but in the real world people can, and do get in a lot of trouble for standing out. The fact that you are incapable of recognizing a mild hyperbole is disturbing, by the way.

Not the old "but you're more wrong than me, so I'm not wrong" gag. You're not even a casual acquaintance, so to have the audacity to think you can classify me from what amounts to unsubstantiated anecdotal remarks on a forum is absurd.

uhhhh... I never tried to say that. My point was that it's not as widely accepted everywhere as it is in fairyland, where you apparently are, and so the appeal of the show would be somewhat limited at best.

And I'm not voicing anything for anyone except myself. You're the one constantly saying "we" and speaking for everyone.

I don't know if you're reading too much into what I said, or just went off on a tear and read what you felt like reading.

Cosplayers and people who dress out of the norm and act out of the norm are not blind to the fact that they can be assaulted, but they still do what they do because they love it. They /know/ what can happen, but frankly they dont care. They just dont care. What dont you understand about the fact that they dont care what people think? If they did, they wouldn't do HALF the stuff they do. I see the crap that they do at conventions, in stores, walking down the streets. They do what they would normally do not in cosplay and they dont care what people think about it. They just want to dress up and have a fun time.

What exactly makes you think I don't understand? I'm quite sure I have not said "I don't understand." You have incorrectly latched onto some idea that you manufactured from one of my posts and you aren't letting it go.

If I didn't, I probably wouldn't have cared enough in the first place to comment on anything in this thread.

Manufactured? Yure the one who basically said cosplayers in places that it isn't accepted will get hit. If cosplayers cared then why would they continue doing it anyway? They aren't blind to what happens to people who dont dress normal or act like society wants them to. If people in your state have issues with it then that is their problem, but it doesn't stop cosplayers from cosplaying in and outside of conventions in /any/ state or country. Perhaps you dont have enough cosplay friends to understand how they hardly care at all what society thinks about their hobby and how we are mocked a lot for it being Halloween when it isn't and the snarky comments we receive ranging from 'gay' to 'retard' to being yelled out outside of conventions that we are all going to hell for our work of the devil.

    who basically said

Here's some advice; basing your responses off of what someone "basically said" i.e. your interpretation of their meaning, is a great recipe for throwing a discussion completely off track.

    xichisex said:

Why are you grandstanding when I have not debated, and do in fact agree with this? Although I don't agree with your usage of the word "care," because, well, yeah, I'm sure they do "care" they just don't let it influence them, (but that's more in the field of semantics) so if that's the way you mean it, then yes, I agree.

I am well aware of the crap cosplayers catch from people on a daily basis, thanks (hell, you'd be surprised at the crap I catch from people when I'm not trying to draw attention). That was rather the topic of at least one of my posts. My concern was simply that this TV show would generate more of it.

Seriously, I don't understand (and in this case, I really don't understand) why are you arguing a point that is not being disputed.

I would have to agreh with you on this on the premise that the majority of amerikans don't do a lot of their homework, on the characters they're doink a cosplay of. While there are exceptions (those who are dedicated fans of the characters they will cosplay) The overall half assed cosplayers who are only doink it for the glam aspect got no idea whom the character's persona is like when they are doink the cosplay of a specific character.
Or the random cosplayer who is doink an adaptation and interpretation all be it obscure such as Steamtrooper for example. Apparently doesn't have a clue that "Cosplay" isn't the same from the perspective of a props fabricator - fabricating a costume. When everyone else has a vague idea, it isn't enough. Its cosplaying of this sort that only muddies the field and allows more misunderstanding and misinterpretation in the psudoculture of cosplay.
Is it any wonder that that dumbass was destined to loose?

There a few exceptions, but it's been pretty lackluster overall unfortunately.

  15. I enjoy it. I think it is fun, but thats probably because I watch the series knowing what it will offer. Not trying to nitpick out everything that is wrong with it. Just gotta take it as it is.
