So they finally announced what the update will contain?
I suppose it's time to check the info and be disappointed that Karin most likely won't make the cut then.

I want it to be a Rival Schools Character. Roberto, Akira, Tiffany or Kyosuke plz.

That would be great(then again so would a new Rival Schools) and with the wording used "The fifth character is brand new to the franchise and has never appeared in a Street Fighter title" It can't be counted out.

You can always play Capcom Fighting Evolution/Jam or Alpha 3. I want her to make a comeback as well. The more I play her in Alpha 3 the more I see how amazing she actually is.

  3. The King of Fighters XIII finals are starting now on stream 1.

In all seriousness I have yet to try Fighting Jam, but it doens't have the best reputation.

I do play Alpha 3 quite allot on the other hand.
Sure wonder if Alpha 3 will ever get released again on something that isn't a bloody PSP...

  9. SSF4 finals has kicked off with Daigo against Infiltration in the first game of losers bracket, needless to say that's an intense start. As all of todays streams it's on stream 1.

    In case someone missed it..

The new update to Street Fighter 4 will be released as both DLC and Stand-alone sometime in 2014 and it will contain 5 new characters and 6 new stages I believe, as well as some other new features according to the trailer. The name of the new version is Ultra Street Fighter 4.

Besides that the 5th DLC character for Injustice was revealed to be Martian Manhunter (act surprised) earlier today.

  10. SF certainly is a cash cow these days.

When have they never been a cash cow? Capcom puts out updates to the SF games all the time. This is nothing new and frankly is better than the way Nether Realms is doing it releasing new characters to buy every few weeks.

Jam isn't horrible but it's not nearly as good as it could have been. I enjoyed it for what it was and never should have gotten rid of it.

As for seeing Alpha 3 double upper on a proper console that would be amazing and I don't see it being out of the question. CvS2 will be out on PSN XBLA soon......Though it was out in Japan LAST YEAR. Damn slowness.

All that aside I was disappointed that VF5:FS wasn't at EVO.

When the name of it was originally titled: "Fighting Street"

  13. This years EVO was quite excellent, even if the Injustice finals were a bit disappointing. Can't say that I regret messing up my sleep schedule to catch all of it.

That was simply the name of the TurboGrafx-CD port, the original arcade release was still know as Street Fighter.

But perhaps you only mentioned it by that name to emphasize on that one.

I should get to giving it a shot sooner or later, I recently got around trying out the SF EX series (which turned out better then expected) so I'm progressing trough the list at least.

The general complaint I hear seems to be that it's basically just Capcom slapping together their own MUGEN compilation.

I do hope they eventually get around to releasing Alpha 3 on current consoles. Preferably the Double Upper edition, if they just end up releasing Alpha 3... Well it's going to be a bit disappointing missing out on the extra characters they added.

Capcom VS SNK 2 is quite a nice one to get a re-release though, but if they keep this up half of my reason for having a Dreamcast gets abolished!

The EX series is fun to play around with, Even 3 which, aside from the graphic upgrade, feels inferior to EX2plus. Building a team as you progress was an interesting twist to a normal arcade mode and was fun to me. Though powering up ace felt fucking pointless.

And yes Jam does have a Mugen feel to it but far more balanced.

There is ALWAYS a reason to own Dreamcast. KoF Dream Match 99, Fatal Fury: Mark of the wolves, Last Blade 2, Project Justice, Powerstone, Powerstone 2, Jojo's Bizarre adventure, MvC, MvC2....Plasma Sword to a lesser extent. I liked it more than Star Gladiator.

So close, yet so far. Blame shitty Murikanization for that title. Which it is only called on the TurboGrafx. In arcades and on later Capcom classic collections it is still Street Fighter.

But I digress. You're saying the original game wasn't a cash cow and I will admit that. It was hard to play and didn't have much of a following.
However, Street Fighter II, the game that could easily be seen as starting the fighting game boom was a cash cow and updates became a trend among SF games.

    Street Fighter II
    Street Fighter II'
    Street Fighter II' Championship Edition
    Street Fighter II Turbo
    Super Street Fighter II
    Super Street Fighter II Turbo
Super Street Fighter II Turbo X
    Hyper Street Fighter II
Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD

    Street Fighter III
    Street Fighter III: 2nd Impact
    Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike
Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Online Edition

    Street Fighter Alpha
    Street Fighter Alpha 2
    Street Fighter Alpha 2 Gold
    Street Fighter Alpha 3
    Street Fighter Alpha 3 upper
Street Fighter Alpha 3 double upper

    Street Fighter EX
    Street Fighter EX+Alpha
    Street Fighter EX 2
    Street Fighter EX 2 Plus
    Street Fighter EX 3

    Street Fighter IV
    Super Street Fighter IV
Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition
Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition 2012
    Ultra Street Fighter IV

In summation, While SF had a slow start, once it took off, there was no stopping it. So to say "SF certainly is a cash cow these days." it's like you're ignoring the majority of the series history.

I can't ignore the history, it's just that when you see another release of Street Fighter IV for the 5th time, it gets redundant. It reminds me of Call of Duty. It had the same start out. When I first came across it, it was on the Xbox 360, and honestly? It didn't pan out much.

Now...when CoD 4 came out, everyone's wig flipped. People lost their bladder and probably were freaking out for this game. Admittedly, it was a nice game. But now? It's bland and usually the same thing for the most part. Then there was MW3. Literally a lot of things remained the same, it was the equivalency of Copy and Paste. All the way to Black Ops 2. Now that was a horrible nightmare I wouldn't force on anyone this website.

But my point is, when you see another Call of Duty, or another Street Fighter, it gets a little repetitive, or..very repetitive. Especially when you have a load of Downloadable Content that's locked away unless you pay money to use it (Which i really don't like, period.),and it's really turn-off to me at times. I won't even discuss Forza Motorsports....so much funding burned on that game and I don't have all the cars.....that are on the disc....locked away. DLC becomes more of a joke each time I think about it.

But Back to Street Fighter. I admit I do play it, but the only one I do play is on the PSP and that's Alpha 3 Max. No DLC. I appreciate the that much from it. The game is nice as well, but again, Street Fighter isn't very revolutionizing when you have 4 more renditions of the same game being pumped out with new DLC, each time. It can get old. But, it's not the only game that does it...

First things first. HOW FUCKING DARE YOU COMPARE STREET FIGHTER TO CALL OF DUTY!

That aside, You openly admit you only play one Street Fighter game, Thus your opinion on the subject as a whole is void.

Each iteration of SF is more than just a few new characters. It's fixing exploits and glitches, re-balancing each character, adding new moves, new fighting systems. Capcom is forever responding to fan demand and doing what they can to make one of their most beloved series of games as great as it can be FOR THE FANS. Not a casual gamer who only plays one SF game then tries in vain to attack it for responding to said demand.

    1. It's the Methods of how the games are sold. All I can say is that both are cash cows that get milked, a lot. Not much more.

    2. I have played more than just Alpha 3 Max, but that's one I play slightly more frequently, but not excessively and the only one I have since the last one I had was SFII which was thrown away by someone. I have played other reiterations of SF2, but it felt the same.

    3. Adding New Fighting Systems is understandable, but fixing exploits, glitches, re-balancing, adding new moves, can be done via updates. While to be fair, the drawback of that is that it takes up more space. At the end of the, while I'm not a hardcore Fan of SF, I've seen a cash cow, and It is what it is. I love Killer Instinct, but if it went through the same thing as SF did, it'd be a cash cow to me, and I'd stop after some point.

Frankly I wish KI did go through as many updates as Street Fighter. It would probably be a better game if it did. Hell the new KI blatantly rips off SFIV's visual style and there is NO justification for a game that will only have 2-3 characters available when you buy the disc and all other characters need to be bought one at a time through DLC.
