    "The new legislation, which kicked in October 1 2012, stated that those knowingly downloading copyright infringing material could face a two-year jail sentence or a fine of 2 million yen ($21,640). Existing legislation against uploaders of copyright content already provided for penalties of up to 10 years in prison and a 10 million yen ($108,202) fine.

    The Japanese public hadn’t witnessed any large scale enforcement action since the law’s introduction nearly five months ago but all that changed a few days ago."

  3. ~ This is the (same) indicators and series which predominated the news since the early 2000's... - nothing really new..

    This is just - "another layer added" - to a already growing subject, that's (always) subjected to ridiculous in-depth scrutiny, innuendo, hearsay, and rumour...

    Yes, many will be targeted, some will be charged (as needed) to make a point... but to charge and jail millions upon millions...world-wide?

  4. Ironically, some sites complaining about this were earlier complaining that the law was useless because no arrests had been made.

    They can't arrest millions.
    In fact with many of the major governments including Japan's so broke they're practicing austerity means even with the new laws they're now less capable of investigating and enforcing copyright infractions.

    Making an example of a few they think they have a water tight case against is all they can do.
    Even this can back fire badly if those examples end up being otherwise upstanding citizens.
    Such as when the RIAA sued a 12 year old girl and a 71 year old grandmother.

    =====

    Agreed...

    Which is why this topic is just a round-about and continuation of the previous topics (already) posted previously..

    More than likely, this issue will continue, whenever a new incident/arrest/decision comes up, call it (added controversy) in an order (to aid) the legislation...

    ======

    Meaning - "TROLL"?

    Yes, they can do that, and with (some) many will - "respond without thinking" - and get sucked into that specific ploy...

    But, with some - "level headed thinking" - - avoiding the scaremongering, fear-tactics, and some basic research... it can be quelled down allot and attended to properly...

  13. It is impossible to stop crime(pirating), all you can do is make examples, when someone wants to do something, they will damn well do it.

  20. Japanese follow this idea considering the issues of bootlegging is very common and been around longer then I can remember just look in New York city people still sell Bootlegs of movies and music on the street and the MPAA and RIAA can't enforce it only on the Internet they do in other states.
