I'm sure that this has already been stated, but if you think about it, there would HAVE to be 'wild crazy sex orgies' in order for that island to survive--Ikuto better treat his harem right, ha ha!
I assume that 'wild crazy sex orgies' are not a normal part of harem anime since they would detract from the viewing experience and enjoyment of the target audience. I agree with this assumption, but I wonder why it is true.
One thought is that since the drama involved in the formation of a relationship is what creates tension and keeps a romance/comedy show interesting, the consummation of such a relationship would end this interest and make the series mundane. I suppose that this continual feeling of 'saudade', 'melancholy', and 'longing' is what I'm addicted to, along with anyone else who falls in the target audience.
However, it still feels that even the suggestion of 'wild crazy sex orgies' is also normally off-limits. This is puzzling, for a couple of reasons. First of all, a mere reference to such activity would not necessarily render a show censored (depending on the, actual content of course!). Secondly, 'wild crazy sex orgies' should not necessarily have to end drama or conflict in a series--they could just be thrown in as 'fanservice'. You might say that this is what Hentai is for, but that has a much smaller market than your everyday, run-of-the-mill late-night anime, and I would assume does not usually include the same drama and comedic elements (although I wouldn't really know, as I don't think I've actually ever seen one).
I need to watch more anime, since I have yet to actually see a good harem end (and I never like to be spoiled!) ...
SPOILER: The closest I've ever seen to such an ending is in Kannagi, Seitokai no Ichizon or Bokutachi wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai, none of which are true harem anime, but all of which are the type of show that i generally like--I like endings that leave room for a continuation, of course!
Why is even the mention of 'wild crazy sex orgies' is not common in anime (not hentai) currently. Surely it is not so that the 'protagonist' is always a Soshoku-kei (herbivore) so that the viewer can relate to them. Also, don't say something dumb like "School Days has those", because I'm not talking about the type of show I have no desire to see!
Anyways, what do you guys think?
