*(for those unfamiliar with the terminology of Type A and B Tsunderes, an explanation can be found here: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Tsundere)*
Ah...The tsundere. The archtype that proves everyone has a bit of masochist in them. It's the archtype we hate to admit that we love, as we are all Tsundere for Tsunderes!
And as you know, I didn't make this post because I was interested in hearing who your favorite Tsundere characters are and how you feel Tsundere characters should be written. I... I was just bored and I needed to practice my typing skills, so I figured I humor you people! *blushes* B-Baka....
(You are free to choose a Tsundere character/s from any medium, Anime, Manga, Video Games: Japanese or Western, Comics, Cartoons, and Live Action TV or Movies: Japanese or Western. It can be either Type A or Type B Tsunderes (definition according to TV Tropes))
Well, on with the Show! (This is not in order of best to worst or worst to best, just who happened to come into my mind first).
I like her as a tsundere mainly because her Tsun is not particularly violent or abusive, its more along the lines of a Tsukkomi to a Boke (The Boke is strong with Hououin Kyouma). She is still very willing to lend a helping hand and doesn't let her Tsun moments get in the way of the more important matters at hand. She also goes Dere at all the right moments. She is also very understanding and gives very helpful moments of insight to Okabe. The budding romance between Okabe and Kurisu are also portrayed very well. In my opinion she is one of the best Type A tsundere around.
Up next is the obvious choice, Rin Tohsaka

I will admit up front that I am most familiar with the animated version of Rin. I am watching a playthrough of the F/SN VN on youtube because I can't actually play it myself due to the shittiness of my old laptop, but it takes me a while as the VN is damn long.
Despite the fact that she borderlines Kuudere in the TV Anime and the UBW movie, Rin still stands as one of my favorite Tsundere and one of my favorite female Anime characters period. My main love of her as a Tsundere is her willingness to admit she was wrong. She has the confidence, ego and competence that one would expect from a Tsundere, but her Tsun is not so blinding and her ego not so massive that it blinds her to her current situation. She is willing to compromise, but she is at the same time more than willing to put Shirou in his place or to keep his martyrdom in check. She is mostly calm and cool, while still having that good old TsunTsun/DereDere charm. Her Tsun moments themselves are not much more than tantrums (mostly) and her Dere is still mostly cool and collected and not overly saccharine. A thorough Type-A, one of the Tsundere icons and one of my favorite characters.
Up next is the Railgun herself

Misaka is an interesting case, as what type of Tsundere she is depends on which series you are watching/reading. In the one where she appears, Index, she is a fairly typical Type A, because Touma is the lead and she has a massive crush on him. Because the series is through his eyes, we see Misaka as primarily Tsun, whist having Dere moments. In her own series of Railgun, she is more along the lines of Type B. She is very kind to most that she meets, but some bring out a bad side of her (like Kuroko's antics or Touma... being Touma). In Railgun, she is primarily Dere but turns Tsun. As I prefer Misaka's character in Railgun, I recognize her as a Type B. Needless to say however, I like her willingness to help others without feeling the need to give sermons on righteousness like Touma does. She is caring, can-do and responsible with her power. Not to mention I find her plight very sympathetic as well as creating an excellent story. A Type A or B depending on how you look at it, one of my favorite characters in To Aru, and one of my favorite Tsundere.
Now for change of pace and color is Kyou

Another Type A Tsundere, who would have thunk it!? (I must really be a masochist). A big reason of why I like Kyou is because of her conviviality. She is very friendly and in general lacks the standoffish attitude that would normally prevent such a welcoming nature. She is also very protective and is surprisingly willing to put her feelings to the side for a Tsundere, which can be seen most obviously in the Another World OVA. Her Tsun maybe violent, but it is mostly directed at Sunohara who is basically the world's punching bag. Her Tsun is far less violent when directed at anyone that is not a joke character. Her Dere as well is appropriate for the moments it happens in (as well as being supremely cute). A purple haired Type A who resembles another purple haired Type A, as well as one of my favorite Tsundere.
And last but not least goes to a double header of Taiga and Ookami!

I give these 2 a shared place because I chose them for similar reasons. Not because I find their behavior as an exemplary for Tsundere's per say, but because of the reasons they are Tsunderes. I like these 2 mainly because of their Freudian Excuses. The Tsundere was at one time intended to show that a character was childish and that this childishness was a bad trait that needed to be grown past. Both of these charaters show the idea of Tsundere as a form of arrested development. Taiga in particular shows this idea well. She had a poor family life with a dad who wasn't interested in actually parenting and a step-family she is distanced from. Her Tsun outbursts come from a fear of attachment as well as a certain immaturity/childishness that she never really grew out of. Her temper and outburst are treated as being immature in the show itself and she does eventually grow past them somewhat, with Taiga herself gaining some Type B traits in the latter half of the show. Ookami ostensibly had a normal upbringing, but her Tsun outbursts and constant rejection of Ryoushi are the result of a traumatic event rather than familial problems. After an attempted rape by Hitsujikai, she attempts to remodel herself as a tough and can-do girl. In some ways she is a Tomboy with a tragic twist as she is basically trying to be one when deep down she is not. Her Tsun as well is the result of a fear of companionship as well, with the addition of not wanting to accept help for fear of seeming weak. Eventually she learns that she has to accept help for her own safety and for those who care about her. Both completely Type A, one is my favorite of the Tsundere Wonders and the other is a cute girl trying her best to be Badass, and both are excellent examples of Tsundere.
As for how I feel Tsundere should be written, I feel that they should not be overly violent (unless they have a really nice Freudian Excuse), their Tsun should be employed against characters who actually deserve it or in times where it makes sense, and the Dere should be cute but still relatively in control, the girl in question shouldn't dip in IQ too far, be too saccharine that it seems fake or let her Dere get in the way of good decision making too often (which goes for Tsun as well). If these things are to be disregarded than the girl in question should have a backstory that explains her behavior and she should grow past it. "Tsundere" shouldn't have to mean "Bitch on wheels who's fury hell hath none like". Tsundere can be great characters as well.
Also on a separate note, although I love the character of Hitagi Senjougahara, I can't call her a tsundere in good conscience.
She likes to call herself one for fun, but she is missing a key component of Tsunderes, and that is embarrassment. No matter what type of Tsundere we are talking about, embarrassment is always the trigger to a Tsundere's moodswings. Senjougahara seems to lack the ability to be embarrassed. Hell she's so blunt that it almost seems like she can't even feel shame at times. Concerning her love for Araragi, she is so honest that it is scary. Senjougahara may like to call herself a Tsundere for fun, but she is far to blunt and honest to be a true Tsundere.
Even Araragi mentions this in a way, when she called herself a Tsundere for the first time, Araragi said that she is more like a Tundra. So I say that she is something of a Kuudere with some Yandere undertones.
So with all of that out of the way...
Heh! You can leave a comment if you want, I don't really care if you do! I didn't do all this just for you, I-I was just bored. *blush*fidget, fidget*blush*
