  1. No prizes for guessing what country this happened in

    http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/4279431/505-dogs-saved-from-the-butcher.html

THESE dogs were saved from being eaten in restaurants after animal lovers spotted 505 of them crammed into 156 small cages on a truck.

Reports of the horrific load flooded Weibo, China’s version of Twitter, and cops halted the lorry in Yunnan province.

Some dogs suffered so badly that they died on being freed (presumably after exploding).

Homes are being sought for the rest.

The Sun thinks that its little script can stop people downloading photos from its site. lol

  3. Here we go again, going ape shit over dog eating while enjoying steak, fried chicken and bacons.

It's like endangered species, people are more willing to donate for a tiger or a panda than for some insect.

Well, not many people keep chickens, pigs, and cows as pets and companions.

The average cow, chicken or pig going to slaughter isn't treated like this. They're not treated as well as they should be, but they're not treated like this.

And dogs were bred, created, if you will, to be companions to humans and to trust them. It's a special kind of betrayal to breed and raise animals to trust you and then kill them.

Well said. I think of this every time I see an animal abuse case.

  7. It's survival of the fittest or cutest in this case, and the dog won.

  8. Something else I forgot:

Dogs have also been selectively bred so that they have very human-like characteristics. Far more than any farmyard animal. Indeed, their characteristics are not just human-like but reminiscent of human children. I can't help but get the feeling that someone who could mistreat a dog without their conscience getting in the way is even more likely than other kinds of animal abuser to treat humans in exactly the same way.

If it were all about cuteness, we'd be up in arms about people eating bunnies and lambs. But we're not.

    You eat bunnies?! you bastard!

Anyway I never said only cuteness matter, I just said they won over the farm animals in appearance, among others things.

    Behaviour is the main factor.

... What is your point? we save dogs from being slaughter because we expect them to:

Now they only have the potential to taste good...

Eating cows, pigs, rabbits, birds, deer, and all those other animals are OK but eating dogs is not? Smells like double standards.

Lets add in human, and now how would u think about it =)? Its bad to put it like this, but they are kinda of like sorted out according to intellgence level LOL, It has been how it is since long ago, and where else do u find ppl eating dogs like that other than CHINA, the way they are treated before killin them etc, its inhuman. Even the pigs get more welfare.

  16. I wouldn't since a human is not the same as a cow or a dog.

China, Indonesia, Korea, Mexico, Philippines, Polynesia, Switzerland, Taiwan, Vietnam, and the Arctic and Antarctic.

I divide the animal kingdom in two groups if it can be taught to do things like catch a frisbee it's a pet if all it does is stand there and it bounces off it's head hello dinner.

  18. Dog meat isn't exclusive to China : o

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dog_meat

Animals raised for food don't get welfare, it's the same:

I could eat you if you were edible, tasty, healthy and legal with no consequence. : D
