Horrible Endings

  1. Good day all, I want your take on horrible endings and am not only talking novels, anime or manga alone, I'm talking about endings in general, for example I'm reading this manga were the protagonist is in love with this girl(who to scared to confess*sigh*) and this alien gives him love test to save the earth from being destroyed by meteors, of course these tests end up having to do with the girl he loves ending up in perverted situations and the girl's best friend is has childhood-friend and so the ending as it was spoiled for me was {spoiler}the girl is in love with him but turns him down because the childhood friend loves him, so the alien girl with the test stays, the earth is still under attack and the childhood friend lets him touch her breast and boom end. {/spoiler} good job author, you just wasted minutes of my life with a ending that is so fucking stupid, I mean the series is a comedy but after ALL the shit he went through and THAT'S what I get ? this is not the first manga that did this crime, it isn't the last, even some of my favorite animes had RETARD endings, to makes me question the directors judgement Ruin Soldier, Gantz, Soul Eater, Eva,etc. the endings leave a sour taste and sometimes even destroy the series, so what is your take on this ? Do endings like this ruin the series for you ? do you feel happy with a open end ? or sad because there is no true closer, DISCUSS!

  2. I do not understand that plot at all. Your typing is terrible and the whole paragraph feels like one run-on sentence, even with punctuation.

That aside, it's the bad end that makes stuff legendary. Madoka, Air, Lelouch, Macross F,AnoHana. The list goes on. It's just not memorable otherwise, and it leaves the fandom with a hungry, gaping wound. Ready to be filled with buckets of merchandise and endless strings of possible new works.

Look at Macross F and Madoka. TV series and two movies, where one is just the retelling of the TV's content. Plus infinite amounts of goods and figures. Sob stories sell.

  3. I tend to find that I'm disappointed by the endings to VNs.

Higurashi was great but the ending was retarded. The final route of F/SN and the final two routes of Tsukihime both raped my mind, but that was partially a good thing.

However, these disappointments did not ruin the experience.

May yours be a greater success!!

Yea.. Macross F's ending pissed me off pretty badly. I was hoping Ranka would die or something else better than the stupid Rivals ending. Other than that, it's still on of my Favorite mech anime.

  8. The Hitch-hiker's Guide to the Galaxy series have one of the worst and out of nowhere endings ever, but at least you know it has ended.

As for anime, Ranma has the standard horrid harem ending, where it ends the same way as it started, and nothing is decided.

The triangular was resolved in the second movie, but I never thought Ranka would die. She's Kawamori's baby.

  11. I have the second movie but have yet to watch it. Guess I should squeeze that in Between Armored Core V and Tales of Graces F

I'm still baffled by Yumekui Merry's ending. Yumekui Merry was a really underrated anime, in my opinion. But once I saw the ending, I didn't want to recommend it to anyone anymore. I don't remember much of the story now, but what I do remember is that there was a bunch of mysteries and questions that were about to be solved perfectly in the final episode. Everything was coming together so well and could have been answered to everyone's satisfaction, but no such thing happened. That was pretty frustrating.

I forgot to add that the manga end as bad as the anime, which makes things much more infuriating.

  14. The only horrible ending that I can think of right off is the ending that never came, until it didn't matter anymore.

Like take Inuyaha the anime. It just dragged and dragged on and on and on and on. But never got around to ending it - just stopped production and waited till all the voice actor's voices changed so they had to use new voice actors. By this time - the younger viewers were thinking "wut the fuck is this??!!" while the older viewers who used to watch it religiously thought "Wut the fucking hell is this??!!".

  15. Sometimes an open ending works, sometimes it doesn't. If it's something that is or can be turned into a franchise, more often than not they just want to wring more cash out of people down the line. But for cases where it's an artistic decision, I usually don't have a problem with it. Dogtooth had one of the best endings I've ever seen, and it just stops abruptly.

  16. I don't really consider it a horrible ending. But I'm conflicted with the ending of Black Lagoon: Roberta's Blood Trail as opposed to the end on the El Baile de la muerte arc of the manga.

  17. Three anime with horrible endings:

Venus Versus Virus: The two heroines, after being estranged, reunite to fight the big bad. At the end of the last episode, they are leaving to go to battle. The End. No conclusion. No finality. No hint as to who wins. (Although I loved the OP song Bravin' Bad Brew.)

Shigurui (Death Frenzy): In the first episode, the Shogun orders swordsmen to duel with real (not wooden) swords. Basically, duels to the death. By the end of the episode, two unusual swordsmen are preparing to fight. One is blind, the other has one arm. Episode ends before the duel. The next 11 episodes tell the back story, how they met, how they were injured, why they are fighting. The end of the last episode is basically the end of the first; they are preparing to duel. It never shows the duel or the outcome.

Akagi: 26 episodes, ends in the middle of a mahjong match where, if Akagi loses, he DIES.

I would just say stick to the manga when it gets to this one, half the anime is okay though.
Although the manga ending without any closure to the whole hinted romance (as far as I can recall, it's been years since I read it) is something that nags me.

I liked the ending when I was young.

Now, Kare Kano has a shitty ending.
