The Bleak Future of Game Consoles

  1. Everyone wants to play Emulators on PC I kind of enjoy playing Zoids and Super Robot Wars series on the GBA Emulator.

The next high-spec consoles will debut soon next year but not everyone is pleased as they should. Some of you may or may not be aware of future plans which will be established for the next-gen consoles of both Microsoft and Sony.

Microsoft's "Durando" project and Sony's "Orbis" will have implemented software that will restrict disc sharing with other systems, according to Kotaku. Discs will be registered specifically towards one account, this will be established to combat anti-used game sharing and piracy. People can still sell or buy used games, however they would need to pay a fee to unlock from the previous owner registered.

It has also been noted that "Orbis" will not offer playback compatibility for their PS3 library games.

It's unclear how the video-game industrial will shape up next year. But there have been numerous responses from gamers already deciding to switch PC platform.

    Discuss.

Are they suicidal or something as no one with a brain is going to put up with that sort of shit.

Won't play used games seriously they can go fuck themselves.

I'd never buy such a system unless it's been cracked and then I'd pirate like crazy just out of spite.

Actually it is 100% true people who would buy something so restricted and pay to play are practically brainless.

I think Sony is probably going to go under soon.

  5. but that's where we're going. So if you want to play, you pay. People will just shrug and pay, because of the lack of alternatives.

I won't pay a single red cent for such a device and would rather do without.
But since it's x86 it'll be cracked heck you probably could emulate it faster then the real deal even on a low end PC though in this case it's not emulation but a wrapper like wine.

Steam does suck a golf ball through a garden hose though at least you can get the games cheap.
Though games are not my life if I have to boycott something or avoid buying it until it's a fair price I can.
On consoles I tend to buy my games used as it saves me a lot of money and if they wish to take this option away they don't need my business.
Maybe the best fix for the industry as a whole might be a scorched earth policy and bankrupt every big name game publisher and simply start over like it's the 1980s maybe we'll see some good games again and users no longer being treated like shit.

  10. sheep in a consumer society, . . They're just wanna exploit the laziness of people with disposable cash, rich folk with brats who only buy the latest trendy games online.

When dvd rentals became obsolete, it wasn't going to be long when the niche of after market games would be threatened, along with new games. While there are hardcore gamers, these are gradually getting older and some will eventually stop being hardcore to raise babies. Others who don't get married will continue to be home-a-loners.

There will always be a niche for the dedicated to build their own and crack what they can. But enforcement of proprietary rights and copyrights will make it harder to be the rogues in the shadows.

It seems they have no idea what has happened the past few years with the economic melt down, housing crunch and the fake oil prices etc etc.

People generally have much less disposable income today then they did ten years ago.

As for enforcement of IP the first world governments are far too broke to play cop of the world anymore.
Really they never had the money to do so.
The economic weight of the police state was one of the big contributing factors of the fall of the USSR.

Even letting piracy run rampant and doing nothing at all ironically would be far less costly to the economy.
It seems the game publishing houses don't even know the law as not allowing resale violates first sale doctrine.
If people were smart they'd boycott any and all companies who enforce such strict eula's that them selves are in violation of the law as the demise of companies like EA and Sony would be a very good thing for the industry as a whole.

Nope the shit is everywhere they don't call it a global economic down turn for nothing cat.
Europe and Japan are far worse off then the US and China looks good on top but in reality it's a ticking time bomb.

    true that.

Europe isn't exactly doing swell at the moment (oh hello lazy Greeks). Japan got hit hard by mother nature, as did Thailand. China is just being China, building huge cities with housing no-one can afford but oh boy does it look good on paper!

Yeah, pretty much the whole world is in a economic dip atm.

What was this topic about again? oh right, consoles.. I do wonder if this will cause a move back to the PC, at the very least graphics will finally be moving forward again.

I dun see a reason why we need another next gen of console. If there is a company that should do that, it has to be Nintendo and not Sony/Microsoft.

Nintendo is going to be the first afaik with the Wii U, they put out some concrete things while both Microsoft and Sony are still in denial.

They're betting their money on another controller revolution rather than powerful hardware. I guess they noticed that a lot of people only use their tablets only in their home and then decided to combine tablet+controller.

  16. Here is the problem Nintendo WiiU system may take them a while to release.Nintendo never bother to explain the specs just the features on the system. They have a lot of third party companies wanted to get on the band wangon to make games.

Spec are supposedly similar enough to the Wii PPC though multi core.

BTW it's reportedly Power 7 based so this machine may be a real beast putting it far ahead the other two consoles CPU wise.

The really interesting stuff will be what the home brew community comes up with for the controller.
Nintendo hardware is usually fairly hacker friendly even if they don't officially endorse it.
The Wiichuck and Wiimote are common staples in the homebrew hardware community.

Considering that they are always nice enough to tell you that any homebrew or the like might stop functioning or be deleted if you update I'd say that they are probably the friendliest, or at least most polite, about it out of the three.

It will indeed be interesting to see the what they eventually will come up with in terms of homebrew for the Wii U. I hope that there will be a Wii U version of Riivolution at least, being able to mod your console games is always a nice feature.

    I should be asleep...

This gives the wii a lot of 1 ups against the other two, I'm still pissed at sony for taking lnux away, they just LOVE screwing the consumer over and over, EVIDENTLY Sony and Microsoft are going to shot themselves in the foot, oh wait the PS4 and the xbox 720.
