Being Japanese I have a lot to say about this.
The women around me are not as beautiful as he claims, many women I know are unclean. I know women that dye their hair and grow out their nails.
Perhaps there are many that are family oriented, but they never support their husbands. Most are selfish, and have a huge ego within the household. Also I have never seen a Japanese women that has never complained.
Why do foreigners have this kind of stereotype?

I think its an excuse to get closer to Japanese women.
When I was an overseas student and heard opinions from other people, most don't really think that way.
Japanese overseas are seen as easy prey.

They don't understand equal rights between men and women, so they are easily tricked into supporting their husbands economically.
This is what most of them think, but none of them actually admit it since obviously they won't be treated well.
Japanese are simpleminded so they're easily buttered up.
In reality, many of my friends while overseas were tricked by foreingers. The most common type is a Japanese works in Japan while she sends money to her foreign husband overseas. They think Japanese are easy.
Thats all there really is to it.
I must admit though, the Japanese who don't notice the foreigners who try to trick them are at fault too.

It's not the "foreigners", it's the group of people that like to dream about Japan that are overestimating the women. They do love Japan very much, but at the same time misunderstand and don't know about Japan at all.
They probably saw way too much anime, and got lost in touch with reality, or read books from the Meiji era and think samurai still walk in the streets.
I've lived in America for awhile, you might fall in love as all people do but generally people (in America) don't think Japanese women are all beautiful and clean. Instead most think they aren't beautiful, have thin bodies, and a plain face.
By the way I think I saw some data that Japanese teens compared to the rest of the world are the easiest to get into bed.
I believe they'll one day come back to reality, if not girls from Japan who'd take any Englishmen would flood England, and the English will come up with a new stereotype that Japanese women like to pamper their men. It'll probably be between those who aren't attractive in their own country so Japanese love won't ever stop. No problem with that.

I think this is common with foreigners who have a lot of interest with old Japanese culture. They don't know about the current situation, and affectionate about the past images of Japan.
