I have been thinking about the demographics of Asian-Americans and their political affiliations. It's stereotypical of Asians to be conservative so thus Asian-Americans go for the Republican Party. But Asian-American Democrats aren't impossible. The president pro-tempre is one. Or, if it's safe to say, they're just independents like the rest.
Asians vote mostly Democrat, but that's because Asians live predominantly in urban areas of "blue" states. Wherever they live, they vote slightly to the right of their white neighbors. Here in the Southeast, most Asians I know who vote tend to vote Republican, just like the white folks. When I lived in Chicago, it was more mixed.
Asians are probably more fiscally conservative than other racial/ethnic groups, but on social issues like abortion, they really don't care. A candidate's positions on those issues are largely inconsequential.
Asians don't make up enough of the electorate in any states outside California and Hawaii to warrant much attention from politicians or the media. This will probably change in 10 to 20 years as a higher percentage become citizens and second (and subsequent) generation Americans.
