I've found this one today. I think that Japanese cosplayers could learn a lot from that.

Reverse Proud Asian?
Average video ruined by including Fall Out Boy.
Learn a lot from what? Recording them on video instead of simply taking pics?

Agreed.
I don't dislike the song, but I don't think it fits the video.
I think it's some really good cosplay. Not something that you see a lot on comiket (or even on the western cons). Those people put a lot of work into their outfits. I'm not saying that western cosplay is better in general. It's just that those are some good examples of how it should be made. About the music, it's just a background, doesn't matter that much. Not something I would love, but doesn't bother me either.
@Nin Wow, you've got a great memory. To be honest I forgot that I wrote that thread.
But still it seems that if you make a right title of the thread it stucks in people's minds ;).

No, Nin just remembers everything. I forgot that thread while I was still reading it.

But then why is this something that puts all Japanese cosplayers to shame?

Kinda scary how Nin tends to remember people. Then again, MikeGold's activity had been minimum.
I don't remember people at all, to be honest. I just looked in his activity stream, heheh.
In fact, I forget people's names so easily, I still don't know all of my classmates' names after three months. When I'd just finished high school, I ran into my classmate at the train station. We talked a little bit and then she told me to take her phone number so we could do stuff over the summer break. But even though I'd had art class with her for an entire year, I didn't remember her name. Obviously I wasn't going to ask her what her name was again so I just entered her into my phone as "Thingy". Never called her either...

The video description says that the clips are from through-out the year, so it's not like all of this was from just one con. If this guy went to a lot of cons, then he may have only found a few of these cosplayers at each one. Every popular con has at least a few good cosplayers (regardless of the country).
Also, just because an outfit is nicely made doesn't mean that the cosplayer is the one who made it. I won't accuse any of the cosplayers in the video of not making their own costumes though, since I'm too lazy to look up anything about them.
Ok. I've made this crazy thread title to get the attention. Without a catchy title nobody would check it. The low quality of cosplay costumes is not a Japan only thing (you have to admit that no matter if it's Japan, USA, Russia or UK, for each good costume there is like 200 bad ones). I've seen quite a lot of cosplay throughout the years (My first conventions were in middle 90's) and most of it is like "let's check what do we have in the closet and what can we make out of it". Even if the cosplayers have some cool costumes, when they go out to the stage, their acting is like: "Umm... I'm Asuka from Evangelion. I hope I'll win." one turn around a few jumps and this is it for the acting. So if someone makes the effort of obtaining an awesome costume and tries to look and act like a character it is worth mentioning. I've heard that song in the background for the first time in my life, and it's ok. I'm more of the DragonForce/Turisas/Sonata Arctica/Rhapsody type of guy, but anything is ok for a background noise. Does the whole thing put japanese to shame? I'd rather say it puts 90% of any given cosplayers to shame.
This is it.
@Nin: You got me. The easiest solutions are the hardest to figure out. I had a sudden facepalm when I read that you just checked my posting history.
I can't see the video embed so I'm going to assume it's the video of the French cosplayers.
I have to say, this is the best way to showcase cosplay. The music and editing just creates this amazing atmosphere, and it really conveys the love the cosplayers have for the character. It instantly shows a 360 view of the work and craftsmanship as well, a huge problem in photos.
In Asia, it's common for cosplayers to post a photoset in their blog with accompanying BGM to try and create this type of atmosphere. It's just wonderful that this sort of thing can be achieved through video, cosplay PVs are becoming more common and slowly rising in quality.
And can you say HNNNGGGG to the delicious Sabers and the Matsurika & Maria!!
Personally, If they are going to showcase a cosplay, they shouldn't play mainstream bands or the sort in the background, like the video above. I would rather they stick with the songs of the series that represents the character.
^With a showcase for a con, it'll actually be more off-putting to have series specific music.
BTW have you guys seen that awesome vid with the cosplayers lip-syncing to Pink's "Raise Your Glass"? I wish I could find the youtube link to post here... Most of the cosplays are really good and it looks like the cosplayers are having fun, it just made me smile to watch.

Well, you can't say I wasn't (fair) even though I knew it was you...
