3 people (number expected to rise) have been killed and 75 have been injured by a woefully incompetent gunman in the Belgian city of Liege. Nordine Amrani (the police deny that there was any terrorist connection) was jailed for 58 months in September 2008 for drug and firearm offences, but, in a typical display of Belgian competence, authorities decided to release him early.

Judging by the kill count, it seems that Belgian prisons do not let their inmates play CoD

  3. To be honest, I'm surprised he didn't just escape from prison. That's the usual way for convicts in Belgium to leave, at any rate. >_>

I guess that at least for once, Belgium isn't in the news for the longest ever government formation or the increasing debts of the federal state (but not the separate regions). Of course, they still don't manage to get in the news in a positive manner...

Belgium is small enough escape is pretty easy maybe the guy was insane and should have been placed in a mental institution.
The Belgium correctional system still treats convicts as human beings so any sane person should not hold too much hostility over the experience unless what we see on TV is just a facade.

The US correctional system on the other hand does often turn sane people into killers.

On debts they're less in debt then the rest of the EU,the US and Japan.

  5. Concerning debts: note how the federal state is the only one in trouble, largely due to politicians being unable to solve problems at a decent pace even when there's a serious economic crisis going on. Hell, when everything was finally starting to get a move on and around a week before they came to a final deal, our current prime minister, the 'formateur' Di Rupo decided to go to the King and offer his resignation. Freaking drama queen. Just because he's gay doesn't mean he has to go all the way. >_>

Yeah, I don't really hold the current political leadership in high esteem. A bunch of clowns and miserable failures, no better than children fighting over inconsequential toys whilst the mansion they're living in is burning down around them because the toys they're fighting over are on fire.

The rest of Belgium (particularly Flanders, which is precisely why they're trying to get them to pay more to fund the federal state) is doing absolutely fine though. Kind of ridiculous, really.

Even the Belgians themselves don't give a shit about Belgium. It's not a real country.

    Good old Nigel!

It's on the verge of splitting into two countries, as I understand it. They can't even unite the Flemish and the Walloons under one flag, but they think they can unite the whole of Europe.

Belgium should hurry up and disintegrate.
