  1. This thread is for the purpose of talking about Autism. Please post your opinions about Autism and the like and not let it leak out to other threads. Also, to get it out of your system:

And with that, no talking about Chris Chan after this point unless in a serious manner.

I highly doubt that 1 out of 100 babies are born with quasi-extreme mutations such as an extra finger from what I had read, we just read different stuff I guess lol. Mutations are common but not such physical mutations lol. Something like that would be something you'd notice more frequently than today by being outside a lot, and in 20 years I've personally never seen someone with 6 fingers yet irl even though I've moved a lot and didn't live in rich neighborhoods where such people are far less often present.

I believe it's more often just slight disturbances based on the human average. One leg barely shorter than the other, the spine not 100% straight, etcetc that can end not affecting you in any way due to how minimal it is <:
It can also simply be in the mental factor which explains diverse personalities. It's Self > Family/Friends > Society in order of importance of what influences you from freud/jung theories, thus diverse personalities also takes into account the different genes people have.

In Science mutation is simply seen differently, not actually circus freak stuff. All that I've cited are genetic mutations and would be at least 1/100 present in more than such minimal cases, but again not like an extra finger. The latter really was impressive by showcasing such extreme cases, although it's sad that it was purely for the amusement of the majority which decided normality. I still found them (like the old 50s or something? movie Freak Show) more interesting than the usual crap you read about in SF or normal fiction 1: But that has nothing to do with this so w/e!
Just my five cents on the subject since I've studied science up 'till some months ago and think I still remember this subject correctly.

Oh, this is perfect. I'll have to remember to make a lengthy post about my experiences and annoyance with autists later.

  6. Eh I only pointed out my pov on the 1 out of 100 people have a sixth finger thing, I didn't really participate in the debate US/zplus'/Sorrior/etc were having since I didn't see the point for me 1:

I'd say this is where it ended in the previous thread:

I'm not an expert as well, but every (little)reading I had about mutation showed to me that mutation is far more common than we think. I think I once read something about 1 in 100 cases of babies born there is a genetic mutation like an extra finger.

I should mention that part of the point of my text is to show that I gave up on thinking autism is decreasing.

I never affirmed autism is caused by a single gene, it only seemed to be that genes responsible for autism give less chances of survival, and clearly because I admitted genetics is very complex, I changed my opinion and now I think autism genes might be already common in our gene pool. There are many cases in which people with signs of autism were extremely intelligent, the media often adores to put up a dramatised story of the poor lad who climb up the stairs of success above misfortune to reach the pinnacle of sciences, or whatever.
However intelligence isn't necessarily a factor that increases the chances of survival, otherwise the world wouldn't appear to be heading for the Idiocracy dystopia.
The descendants of Abraham have this stereotype of being very intelligent, but when it's regarded all their suffering since time immemorial I'm hesitant on the results of this research, but it's true autism genes might be part of genetic benefits we don't know of, yet.
I hope the Tay-Sachs correlation doesn't rely on the fact that intelligence being the same as the ethnicity that won the biggest number of Nobel prizes, because they also happen to be the biggest part of number of gigolos, such that 1 out 9 gigolos are Jewish...

On a side note: You don't see autism in private high schools in Luxembourg (there were also only 4 arabians and 10ish blacks in the one I went to, but that's another topic). Now that I live in France I actually see them and quite frequently, 2 even work in the supermarket I usually go to, and that's all I wanted to add no matter if it mattered to their discussion or not <: I just know parents that have kids diagnosed with that always worry about if they'll be able to insert themselves in the adult working world once they're grown up. Those two do their job fine, slightly slower but they also have a small badge so the customer is aware and won't snap at them. The concerned people either got used to it or actually don't mind being different as they weren't nervous/insecure at all when I'd be in queue or while paying.
They weren't very developed autism cases either obviously, otherwise getting a job would become impossible in most places.

It is when your ethnic group is basically forced into intellectually demanding jobs and when education is extremely highly valued.

Stop seeing everything through 21st century western eyes and learn some history.

Are you saying that gigolos are stupid?

On the contrary, I'll wager that most of them are pretty smart. You need to have wit, charm and a way with words in a job like that.

And this "Jews=gigolos" is a new one. I'll have to add it to the list.

On a barely related note, BTW, could you please tell me what you were smoking when you made your posts? I would like some.

  8. Mutations are extremely common(as you read this, at least 20 mutations happened in your body). 1 in 500 newborns have an extra finger, more than 2% of the population has an extra nipple, everyone has sightly different skin/eye/hair color. These are all mutations.
Also, most of the mutations are neutral, some are beneficial, some are harmful.

My cousin quotes Disney movies and re-enacts fight scenes from DBZ, does that make him autistic?

Quoting Simba in everyday life situations is deep as hell. Hakuna Matata. Still lock him up for re-enacting DBZ fights though.

OK! For lack of a better phrase, these videos primarily influence my views on autism.

My cousin goes beyond quoting famous Disney quotes. A lot of the times he'll quote a random line of dialog from a movie, like "Jafar, that lamp is not yours!", and then he explains the context of the situation.

That's very common amongst autistic kids.

Of course, you should get him assessed by a psychologist before making any assumptions.

Except he's almost 19. However, that kind behavior has persisted since he was 6 years old.

  20. I "used" to be one as a child.
And I'm still ashamed of myself.

(then again it's part fault of the bitch of theacher who made me sit in front of a wall during almost 2 years and made me become unsociable, which I just recently stopped being).
