Now now, playing the martyr might have worked in the past, but it would be a silly thing to do now that I've been exposed as a pathological liar.

I hate how people focus so much on gay marriage.
People miss the 60's and 70's moralism so much that they'll cling onto any sort of easy to focus on social paradigm in order to claim progress and not have to think too hard. While other issues such as the US budget, national security, economic stagnation, War on Drugs and the corrupt academic boards increasing tuition rates just because keep looming, we just tune into what inane thing Pussy Riot did.
What no one seems to get is that any social change results from a change in demographics. As the old farts who don't want to learn or think about anything new retire from voting or die, the young who actually have a different viewpoint will take up a higher proportion. It isn't a social achievement, just a waiting game.

Yes.
Progressives love the low-hanging fruit. This is also why they're so obsessed with relatively minor or even non-existent cases of sexism and homophobia in western countries, while completely ignoring much bigger issues in these areas when they happen in countries that might actually fight back because they don't wither and die when someone calls them a bigot.
How many slut-walkers have commented on the situation of women in the Islamic world? Probably none, except any former Muslims who happen to be amongst their ranks.
And how often does imgur condemn gay men being imprisoned in Christian Africa or executed in the Middle East? I don't recall seeing it happen.

Yes.Different strokes for different folks, bros. An issue that is less in the priorities for one can be the life or death issue for another. You may not think gay marriage is an issue of importance (to be honest though, what are your opinions on it regardless of how important you think it is?) but the truth is many, gay or not, think it is something to care about because it's something less complicated (in their view at least) and can win on their side (in most of the developed world at least).
Let's face it. As much as we think or like to think issues like the budget, national security, economic stagnation, War on Drugs and the corrupt academic boards are more important and issues like gay marriage are a distraction, the former is too complicated/complex, too unknown and load to tackle for many. Anyone can say any issue is more of a priority or distraction.
Think about it. Would you rather waste energy tackling an issue with vast complexities like the budget or would you rather at least start on something by fighting for an issue that is easier to end with people still affected like a social issue?
