    ^^this
when someone does a reboot, they either do a good job or they fuck it up.

oh well, even if they fuck it up at least some folks will get some work out it some where so its not a total waste.

  6. fucking it up is bad, they may not recoup costs, let alone make a profit. i hope they do it right.

  7. I am interested. I liked the Roughneck series. The first movie was good. The second and third, not so much. But they probably can't do worse than the movies. I welcome it.

  9. I can't say which is better as the 1980s OVA has aspects of the movie, specifically the powered armor while the film series puts a 12+ feet mecha instead of human-size powered armor that only appeared in the third film.

As for the 3D series (Roughnecks: The Starship Troopers Chronicles, it is quite good though.

I just hope this one is good too.

The problem is that the adaptation is more like a detailed story of the protagonist's experience in boot camp and from I have researched, there is little combat in it.

It's either they should literally adopt the premise of the novel or use the novel as a basis and expand the story but would not contradict the idea of the original source.

The funny thing about all of the adaptations is that they get the nationality of the main character wrong.

They couldn't find Filipino actor there was Dante Basco but he was doing other films at the time. They choose Casper Van Den because he had a look that everyone like.

Aside from that, it is never stated that the Pseudo-arachnids are not like the Zerg or used organic-based technology but it is stated that they are advance enough to create FTL-capable starships and use directed energy weapons.

Also the film adaptation completely remove reference to human-size powered armors while the series has it but is divided into two types and the OVA has more of a near tank-like version.

My guess on the original design of the powered armor is that it is like a human size Gundam minus the more fancy weapons.

Your right about it they had no power Armors in the first or second movie because they spent most Budget on CGI effect's and Artist that made that movie charge a lot back in the 1990's if they added power armors into the movie it would of cost more.

  15. There is also this Hollywood thing about "faceless heroes": they prefer having the main character having their face exposed because in Hollywood logic (which is full of B.S.), the viewers are dumb and that only antagonists must have are faceless goons

Let's add some (meat) shall we?

    STARSHIPS

As the title implies, the ships are an integral part of the Starship Troopers universe.

Likewise, political commentary was a key element of both the original Heinlein novel and the original Starship Troopers movies we all know and love.

The starship name Rodger Young, used in both the novel and the movie, is homage to a WWII Medal of Honor recipient. Fittingly, the creative wizards of the first movie designed a ship that is so badass that she is still praised and referenced by sci-fi fans.

For the new movie, we wanted to focus on a pair of ships that have broken off from the main fleet: a big starship called John A. Warden, and a small fast-attack ship called Alesia.

Alesia’s name is derived from the Battle of Alesia in Eastern France where Vercingetorix surrendered to Julius Caesar.

The Starship Alesia is home to the Roughnecks Alpha Team and is tasked with escorting the John A. Warden from Fort Casey back to Earth. We also gave other ships historical names like “Sheridan” (Civil War) and Franklin (the US president).

The design process started with the original designs from the previous movies. We decided to keep the overall sleek and stylish designs and revamped them with updated guns and cannons as well as containers and cranes. Check out the conceptual design/sketch of Alesia and the work-in-progress below.

    That’s all for 2011.

Will come back early 2012 with new updates, including more about the John A. Warden.

    Until then, Best Wishes!
