For a rare game, I would expect the price to be much higher. Especially since most will buy it for collectors value.
$20~ is a very fair price to release the newer games imo. And if anything, I think the older ones should raise in value.
It's not like these games make leaps and bounds with technology. The new ones are still (for the most part) using the same old engine.
There's only one Touhou game that introduces the SDM. You can't replace that.
i honestly think those that think 20 bucks is expensive should just never play an other game again seeing as the avg price for ps3/xbow360 is 50-60 bucks

I'm thinking it has more to do with the derivative works rather than the actual games themselves. So many artists in Pixiv never played the game, yet they draw them religiously to gain attention. If their art is good, they get that attention, and other artists copy the method. Then suddenly Touhou doujins are everywhere and it somehow look 'popular' lol.

You're right. It didn't get the popularity it currently has by being the game it is. It's popularity spread through artwork.
ZUN himself said that Touhou is what the fanbase makes it. So artwork and doujin are part of Touhou, ergo, these artworks don't make it "look" popular; the artworks being popular is Touhou being popular.

I think the music and remixes also had a lot to do with it along with crazy videos like this one.
As for Zun on foreigners getting touhou it has more to do with legal issues vs anything else.
Supposedly it's a hobby of his and he wants it to stay such.

Not really, i used to get 8-9AUD every hour, and some people get as low as 5AUD
