Charming people might not be, but people who use their "charm" for the purpose of being manipulative are generally overly reliant on other people do things for them and therefore lack any real productive skills of their own.

I have met a great deal of such incompetent charming people, especially in college and at work. They like to get people to "help" them with stuff and take credit for it when it's done.

I like to act like I've fallen for it once or twice, and then completely hang them out to dry, either by just not doing their work for them any more, or by giving them a solution that is so far beyond their skill level that they hang themselves when they try to explain what it is to their boss / teacher.

If they get used in the end, they are indeed not so smart, now are they?

Also, you people keep underestimating people that use their charm and you'll fall right into their paws.

I won't even get into details about the much different ways to seduce people, but believe me, there are LOTS.

I realize DC mention they wanted to make Anti-heroes for The Red Hood and the Outlaws which is the comic that is causing controversy over Starfire. I guess DC had to change Starfire's into a Antihero bad girl Nympho Alien who doesn't give a shit character to fit the make up in the story. This is very much an alternate storyline which may or may not have any effect on image of the character.

Geared with the fact that this was for older teens not kids,(the T+ sign is on the front damn it) why the hell did she give her 7 year old the comic ? the original teen titans cartoon was loosely based on the comic because the original comic itself was mature, seriously people just want to bitch >.>

  3. So DC outright admits they were going for softcore porn?

HAH! That's rich. I'd be considerably more interested if their character designs weren't utter shit.

Though I can't blame them too much, they're re-using established characters after all... but that's all the more reason to actually drop them and do something different instead of rehashing the same shit over and over and over and over again. Meh!

Which is true the parent's had to bring up the issue there was also a female blogger that brought up another issue about Female empowerment which DC seems to be known to do it the wrong way sometimes.

The only characters I seem to notice that were treated better is Batgirl and Batwoman (Lesbian version).

    This article?

It's a really good read, actually. For those arguing that Starfire was always like that before the TV series, this excerpt from an old comic was pretty damning.

Yeah that article, your right that this is Starfire the old character who acted like that in the Comics. Its funny this is another Jim Lee incident little known fact he is the co-publisher of DC, back then he was the creator of Wildcats. I remember that the Cartoon had cause some controversy over one of his Characters when they release the series.A parent's Organization had a issue with one the characters named Voodoo profession being a Stripper in the Comics even violence which caused CBS not to give Wildcats another season.

  8. Damndable neckbeards! *Shakesfist*

The comic book scene is hostile enough to women already.

With a charming personality, you save hours of socializing. By being charming and good-looking, you don't have to worry about the first-impression part. Which, as much as we deny it, is a big part of a meeting between two people.

I can barely remember any first impressions off the top of my head actually. They're really very forgettable events.

  9. Forgettable, yet important nonetheless.

  10. Here's my own personal rant about Starfire's character derailment:

    http://theragingfanboy.wordpress.com/2011/10/03/deconstructing-red-hood-and-the-outlaws-part-2-starfire/

As for why I'm so late to the party, it takes a while to skim through 200 comic books in order to gather enough evidence to demonstrate exactly how hard something sucks. :P

  11. Sad really, before this article I might have felt at least a smidge more willing to think 'comics' was more reasonable to female fans than this, but this whole topic makes it fairly clear, female comic fans are an accident, not an intent.

For all the boner building dumb ass shit of manga and anime, it still has so many entirely female pandering sectors of content all the same.

Just reinforces why I likely will be hard pressed to find the time to read old comic classics on my tablet, as I will be too busy reading manga on it.

Because comics, it's really just too much about guys in tights with capes. As the kids would say, sounds way too gay. Maybe neckbeards are just too inherently queer? Might as well be for all the female action they get in their lives eh.

  12. With all this talk about gender equality in comics I can't help but be reminded of this delightful exchange with DC's co-publisher...

That of course being an inseparable story from this event here:

Me and a friend were talking about it he made those same points you have mention on the blog.He also told me that Starfire shouldn't be apart of the Outlaws they had to have someone else they could of choose to fit the part like for example Ravanger (Rose Wilson) to play the part.

Yeah, that's a problem I spelled out in my end rant. Basically, the writer made the same mistake that DC Comics has been making more and more often ever since DiDio took the reigns, and that's force a given character to fit the role you want rather than selecting another character that's a natural fit. This results in massive character derailment and pisses everyone off. It would've been simpler if they'd just selected another female character - a supervillain, for example - and gone with that. But don't take a fan favorite character, completely reverse her personality, and break her so that she'll be suitable for your vision.
