"Curing" internet addicts - China style

  1. I'm surprised this hasn't come up on Sankaku before, especially since it appears to be rather old news.

    The Chinese perspective of things:

    WTF. I'm feeling sick now.

Idiots who do not understand the wonder of the internet, and how much it is involved in our life and how much it will be involved in our lives in the future. According to this most business men and programmers are "internet addicts".

According to this man, electroshock, complete submission, depresants and a military excercise regime.

I refuse to believe in internet addiction, it's simply another medium for interactivity.

What is this, A Clockwork Orange?

  6. Oh, I didn't see that. I just skimmed through, saw something about a knife [shrug]. Electroshock will make anyone stop doing anything, that doesn't mean they were addicted to doing whatever they stopped doing. Know what I would be doing if I didn't have the Internet right now? Watching TV. If I didn't have TV, I'd be staring at the ceiling.

Agreed... and yet I notice (for me, while I'm on my computer), that unless I physically turn my modem off and see the red X on my internet connection taskbar icon, I can't watch anime in peace without feeling the impulse to open up forums, email, and sites I frequent >_>

Then again, anyone with an OCD tendency is prone to repeated mechanical tasks in general, be it checking email, or washing hands, etc. At least the internet is a social one.

In my experience, the internet is only as social as you make it. In fact, often times, I'll find myself lamenting at just how barren and lonely the internet is. You put in what you get out.

And I do think the internet can be an addiction. I'm just not sure if it's a negative addiction. :p

  9. imo behavioral fixations such as gambling, the internet, videogames, participating in sports, etc. are obsessions and not addictions. Only drugs are capable of true addiction.

  10. I've been electrocuted before... It felt good although it made me piss myself. Also 6 hours and your addicted? Please I've slept close to 16 hours on the internet on some days.

  12. Simply put, authoritarianism is bad. And people can do what they want with their life.

As long as it doesn't fuck over other people (i.e. murder, stealing, etc)

  14. Yes, I do tend to be on the border with people who think ALL laws should go away. Not sure I agree with them and getting such a society to work would seem a bit complicated and harder.

However, crimes that DON'T violate the rights of others, NEVER make sense to me. The idea of a victimless crime is simply ludicrous. It's law this time violating the rights of others.

You could have just looked at the url...
    "china-electric-torture-in-web-addict-clinics"

Also, if you haven't done so already, you should read the part where the "patient" describes how he was tortured. It makes up only 33% of the text and is really rage inducing. They also did this to 14 year old girls apparently.

Back when we didn't have teh internets, we would exorcise people who were posessed by demons. Nowadays it's all electro-shocks and cyber-rape... -___-
