Does anybody stay away from manga?

Same though sometimes(or alot of the time) there just isn't much choice.

And that's when I don't read it. There's plenty of other stuff I can read or do.

Downloading manga isn't too bad, you know? The quality of scans has really improved lately. Look at how clean that striped shirt came out.

I can't help but agree that holding a magazine or a tankoubon simply feels much nicer though.

Velvet Kiss. [MAL] By Harumi Chihiro. Soba-Scans does it, in case you're interested. It has to be one of my favourites.

  7. I dont stay away from manga... manga stay away from me. I hate reading them online so i have only one option: buy the real thing... on page 1 i seen: rent manga. I would love to do that ... but of course there is no such thing. So all i have to do is go to the closest manga shop and buy it. Well i can find one... in another country... first thing is to see what european country have one... ok then: there must be a library with some manga... and yes there are... air gear, and 2 others... yes... just 3 series in the whole country...
Hey... why dont i just buy from a online shop? Well i would but im to lazy to make a bank account... :) And the transport will double the price... i dont want to pay 100$ for a manga...

Too lazy to make a bank account? Don't you ever want to buy things online? You're missing out, man. I used to buy manga in the bookstore, but I order it all online these days.

Only First World countries' libraries have manga. Third World trash like Europe only carries it in book stores, and mostly only in large cities.

Manga is quite peculiar ain't it. In Japan, anime is more expensive, manga is cheaper. In America, manga is more expensive, anime is cheaper.

Maybe for shounen manga. For seinen manga, the price discrepancy is not so large.

    JP Vampire Bund V9 ¥ 580 (= 7.54522 U.S. dollars)

    US Vampire Bund V9 $8.79

That, and I preorder all my DitVB, so it ends up being even cheaper. I got V10 for $6.26... and as I look now, it's currently at $5.49.

It's the shipping and handling that kills you. ¥ 2700 ($35.10) shipping and ¥ 300 ($3.90) per item from Amazon.jp. True the more volumes you buy at once the cheaper it is but it still almost doubles the price of the manga. Ten manga at ¥ 5800 = $75.42 plus shipping and handling ¥ 5700 = $149.54. So in reality it's closer to $15.00 per volume. The fewer volumes you buy per order the more expensive that volume becomes. It sucks, like I said in my earlier post that's why I'm always broke. Expensive pastime.:(

I'm a hardcore collector, but I buy very little for 2 reasons
    - I'm broke most of the time
    - I don't like official translations very much
I love buying and collecting manga. And I read them several times, especially while at the bathroom

This is true, though you need to check out the libraries in your neck of the woods.
Some public libraries do have a manga section. But campus libraries are more likely to have manga. For academic reasons; Art, Presentation, & the literary value.
How ever, the "naughty" titles won't be easily found. Though some libraries will carry them - in the adult section.
    ^_^

To have a better appreciation for an animu series or feature release, one should go and have a go at reading the original manga if its available.

Having read Miyazaki's Naussica of the Valley of the Wind, in the original manga you can appreciate how much was sacraficed in order to make the cinematic release a viable project. (fyi to those that don't know Miyazaki did all the original art as well as write the entire manga).
