Question: can you play the 3DS games on a normal DS (as in, it'll just disable the 3d effect)?

No. Nope. Nein. Niet. Non.
'oh well'.

Well look. If you turn the 3D off, you're still left with a great console that's bound to get a great lineup (it's already fairly neat as it is), with better graphics than the DS, more processor power than the DS, better online capabilities than the DS, at the price of a DS.>3DS gets announced
>"Shit man I don't want 3D gimmicks"
>You can turn the 3D off
>"Shit man I don't wanna buy it if I can't have 3D!"
The cheapest DS that's still being produced goes around $120. $50 less, honestly, is that the same price to you?
And some flagship games are slowly degenerating, IMO, like Pokemon. It's like, "More of the same thing, with better graphics!"
You failed to spot the concept. You would have paid $170 for a DSi half a year ago. Yet now you can have a console that's heaps better at that very price. Or if what you meant in your first post was that the DS seems attractive after its latest price drop, go for it. I'm not gonna argue with you about that. Sounds like a great idea.
And that the Pokémon games are "more of the same thing but with better graphics" is purely subjective. Every generation of Pokémon so far has introduced some drastic and nicely tactical changes to the metagame. That said, I'd agree with you from a casual gamer's "beat the Elite Four, catch all pokémon" viewpoint.
next time they sell the 3DS for 120 bugs without the 3D effect...and it will be a success :)
That'd be pretty great. I'd start collecting bugs as fast as I could.

Not really. Honestly, the DS/3DS isn't for me. I'm too much of a hardcore gamer and I'm more into RPGs, which is better provided by the PSP.Though, If someone was to buy a DS/3DS right now, I would tell them to try both before buying.
I just don't see it anymore, the core game remains, "Level up with a good and varied team, and bring them to the League." And yes, it's subjective, that's why I started with the acronym, IMO, before saying anything else about it.
I admit, the only reason I'm debating right now is because of boredom.
In that case, I'm sorry. I've got no more debating food for you. I pretty much agree with everything you just said.
It's alright, thanks though.
I have a feeling that the price drop has something to do with the series of cancellations of high-profile titles planned to be released for the 3DS. Could it be that Nintendo's sales team are anticipating more companies to follow suit?
Not that this would be too much of a big deal for Nintendo; they can get at least return capital with Mario and Pokemanz under their belt.
I just hope that if Capcom somehow decides to cancel Resident Evil Revelations, they would only put the game on PS3/360/PC where it belongs and not cancel it completely into dev hell. Capcom has done stranger things though...

Where it belongs? What are saying?
If Capcom cancels revelations, they are gonna take a hit. You can live the next 3 yrs on 1 new IP and not release anything else. Street Fighter X Tekken isn't gonna carry the company on it's back and people aren't gonna shell 40 bucks for a rebalanced fighter with 4-8 new characters every year.
I would like to believe that Capcom/fighter fans aren't as brain bead as CoD followers.
I think Devil May Cry is gonna bomb, as I do Dragon's Dogma will. The Megaman franchise seems as good as done considering the chance to make the first noteworthy Megaman game since Legends 2 was canned. Capcom has lost sight of it's properties and are too scared to try anything new or even try anything again. Their key players keep leaving them as well. They've spit in a lot of face in the last 10 yrs. If they cancel Revelations then they don't know what side their bread is buttered on. RE: Mercenaries sold well for them, and naturally so did SSFIV3DE; If they want to ensure some more sells(and help nintendo sell more consoles) they just need to give us a Monster Hunter for the 3ds and for Wii U. I'd even ask to help develop the new smash bros if I were them. Put that name on a project that WILL sell.

I agree with all of these except, I think the street fighter followers are falling like the COD followers, how many people do you think dished out extra cash for characters that could of been on dlc, they even dished out cash for COLORS! why the fuck do you PAY for a extra color costume, "hmmmmmmm red just ain't working, I'll spend 10 bucks on this pink!", my god wtf is going on with capcom ?
first they pass the devil may cry torch to a new team and let them butt rape the franchise, then they hung megaman and now we only see like one game that has been re-released with just different colors and 2 or 4 additional characters than people are going to shell 50 bucks on because they figure "hey fuck it, so what if I got like 3 other versions of the game WHICH i paid 50 bucks for each!, am sure they are going to improve this version!" *runs off to the store*, oh yeah a next Marvel vs Capcom 3 version is coming out right ?
Am sure capcom will be release Super awesome Ultra badass wo ho Street Figther 4.2030383076182 with tri-colors and 1 additional character! and am sure people will buy it.
oh I would like to believe the 3Ds is doing this so they can now compete with sony's on coming new handheld(which I don't see a reason to buy it yet).
What do you guys think about the free downloadable games Nintendo's giving to the early adopters
At first I was ticked that I got ripped off but no anymore ^-^ So thoughtful
I might buy the 3ds if it ever gets hacked and gets some custom firmware, some cool homebrew applications could be made for it.
Beyond that though, nothing really that worth it though, zelda and mario games got stale for me a decade ago, i havent played a pokemon game since blue, and dont care for a handheld really.
TBH id rather have a psp vita, that thing will be insane when hacked :)

It took a long time for the 3000 series to be completely hacked, and the looks of the PSP vita, it does not seem to have a battery replacement or extensible memory (from the looks of it) so I don't know how long it will take to hack, tho nintendo stuff is always easily and silently hacked away, sony's stuff puts more effort, example a) the PS3, if you can even call it completely hacked and cracked.
My ps3 is completely hacked ... can play backups, andnany homebrew i feel like, though i only use it for playing super nintendo games nowadays anyways.
The vita will be hacked pretty quickly, everything sony has a giant bullseye on it after how theyve treated the hacking community lately. I'll juts wait til it does get hacked, no matter to me if it takes 6 weeks or 6 months though.
Do you connect to PSN ? because if you do you would be banned(I believe)
