  3. The Haruhi-ism stuff goes too far anyway. There are religions with REAL gods, Icy. Do the research, they are around you.

But on to real religions as viewed though Japanese pop culture. It's represented pretty well. Of course Shinto and Buddhism get high marks, especially in hentai and eroge (Kannagi and Amaenaideyo!! for example).

Christianity... meh. I've seen it in some positive ways (My-HiME, Rurouni Kenshin season 3, sub-plot of Samurai Champloo...), a kick-ass way (Hellsing Ultimate), made fun of (Maria†Holic), put as a setting for yuri series (Strawberry Panic!, Cream Lemon's Escalation saga, etc.) and a setting for some depraved SHIiTe (Bible Black, Love Doll, Holy Virgins [Kitty Video title]...).

Islam, well... let's just say I've heard some rumors from the 'net about the Jojo's Bizarre Adventure movie.

Still, I enjoy seeing how they draw series, games and such from religions. I'm sure many ppl here know that some anime series have had plots and back stories based on all sorts of religious stories, text, prophecies, etc., like Evangelion (obviously). Would liek to see less Catholic academies in H and eroge, though.
