Mayhaps, a hologram effect, where we will have the same type of comps/laptops as seen/suggested in animu/films, which are just virtual keys/placements...

Like touch screen without the screen. Not too far off if you think about it.

Y'know, it's crazy how quickly the internet grew in the past decade. Pre-2000, people had dial-up but it wasn't nearly as widespread. Since the end of the 19th century, technology has been advancing at such a rapid pace. It won't be long before a) we build colonies in space or b) we wipe ourselves out from nuclear war.

Didn't they say the same thing in the 60´s?

Actually, that was imagined and stated in the 1950's, in the 60's we achieved what was thought impossible...

In the 70's came Skylab... which in a way (could be) depending on how you look at it, as a (first) mini space colonie..

    Which influentially was...

An American space station with a manned workshop, solar observatory, and other systems that orbited the Earth from 1973 to 1979.

It was launched, initially unmanned, by a modified Saturn V rocket, and weighed about 77 metric tonnes in orbit by itself.

Three manned missions to the station, conducted between 1973 and 1974 by an Apollo Command/Service Module (CSM) atop the smaller Saturn IB, each delivered a three-astronaut crew.

During that time, an additional Saturn IB was on standby for rescuing those in orbit.

So, in a way, this could be - "a starting point" - somewhat... (again) depending on how one looks at it.

Though true... However... many failures hampered the missions...

starting with and not the last...

Salyut-1 (Zarya) Type: DOS-1 Developed by TsKBEM, which was launched in April 19, 1971 - with a crew of 1 and (finally) de-orbited on Oct. 11, 1971.

If I remember correctly, this first crew docked, but was not able to enter the station.

... and so the space race continued...

Do you mean that you foresee some sort of SanCon equivalent of Facebook?

  8. I'll be impressed if Sankaku is still even in existence in 10 years. Now not saying it can't be, but, it is the norm that tech completely outmodes almost anything in 5-10 years.

And I have already been able to watch it happen repeatedly several times since 1990.

Webpages used to be so totally the thing.
Online journals were all the rage.
Chat programs have come and gone often.
    Blogs have evolved a lot.
Remember when My Space was everything.
    Twitter seems old already.
Forums, used to be such a unique experience.

The machines we can use though are constantly changing everything.
Used to be a phone was only good for use as a phone. Now it's part game item, part web browser, part email tool. I have almost no interest in 'improving' my desktop and why would I want to, I can't carry it anywhere. Now all I do is add more storage the way I might add more bookcases to a room. My laptop doesn't have as big a screen, but I can take it with me. And with items like the iPad and all of it's recent competition, soon a laptop will seem clumsy.

The future will be more and more about online activities that can be done more and more from anywhere. I'm guessing the next step is to leap into greater immersion. No more text, all about avatar interaction as if you were actually there.
