Sad news for those following the JDM motorsports scene...

Japan's equivalent of "Top Gear" is cancelled.

No more monthly and bi-monthly video magazines featuring the Drift King (aka Keiichi Tsuchiya) and Gan-san :(

  3. Very disappointing but then again the Option videos are almost the same as Best Motoring. Besides not having the Touge battle segment but they are very much the same.

BMI was more professional and technical. Option was closer to Hot Version, but even then Option gave the feeling of grassroots drifting, the local scene.

But Gan-san is the man. Give him an S2K or NSXR and he'll whoop ass.

Methinks the cancellation has to do with the unfortunate incident at Touhouku (northeast Japan). Touhouku is where well-known BesMo tracks are located, such as Ebisu, and Tsukuba.

Another reason i think why think it's cancelled is the business model... if being a part of the online video industry has shown me anything, the Internet is great at turning offline dollars into online pennies.

  8. Ebisu has actually reopened.

As for tsukuba I am unsure of.

Option does something similar with their "video toaster" but still releases DVD's.

Isn't BMI basically a combination of Best Motoring and Hot Version? For BMI version I heard the take some scenes from BesMo and Hot Version and then combine it.

    REJOICE!!!

KEIICHI & THE GANG ARE BAAAACK!

    so far...

    - HOT VERSION WAS SALVAGED
    - BEST MOTORING IS NO MORE (1987-2011)

LOOKS LIKE NEW SEGMENT(S) WAS ADDED TO HOT VERSION STARTING WITH 111, 112 AND SO ON...

A special tribute to Mazda rotary power!
(cause Mazda won't be producing rotary 'till... maybe at the end of this decade once they see profits from SkyActiv technology)
