Does japan have a rap scene?

  1. First and foremost, personally I've always only preferred rap when it's fused with alternative rock elements, like Rage Against The Machine.

Second, I absolutely hate rap and hiphop shit that carries the usual lame shit: Reversed cap, jersey shirts, baggy pants, gold jewelleries and glorification of crime on the basis that everyone else in their 'hood' is doing it(also fake or artificial tans to make them look more nigga-ish for non Africans). This, or just endless rambling about how much you wanna tap some bitch's ass. Yes, in this prospect, I think the later days of Will Smith in his rapping is infinitely better than the insecure posers we see on MTV every week.

Third, I've yet to find Japanese rap and hiphop acts that doesn't try to do any of the above. Not that I LOOK for it anyway since rap isn't my most favorite, but if you can show me, I'd appreciate it.

So then i'm not the only one who read this first as well.

But yeah as has been posted they have one i've even heard of a thing called jiggers basically think weaboo but japanese and into rap/the hood type shit. Translated it's japanese niggers.

You don't know shit asspie. Go back jerking to loli porn and mooching off the government.

We have a lot of Chinese niggaz here in NYC. ABCs(American Born Chinese) as they are called are at a large number in Brooklyn and Manhattan, a good portion of them adapt parts of my native culture, but exhibit the worst of it as well. Arrogance is a prominent for niggaz...and boy do the tend to be just that.

ABC is an Azn gang here in socal.

Will Smith, are you fucking kidding me? Sorry guy but you might as well hate all of it because it's all like that. It's like if I didn't like rock because most of the artists are white. Throwing in a little Will Smith love for you from Eminem.

You are letting the fashion define it's caliber.

M-flo's Verbal is well noted for his high fashion and fistplates, but he has limited himself to the expected norms of the genre because of this. M-Flo(him and Taku<---he produced the P&Sw/G OST) as a unit have done a lot for the genre within Japan in the past 10 yrs and Verbal's character during interviews wouldn't indicate that posing as a gang banger or anything. He found passion within his preferred styling to except and create a image he feel is best suited for himself.

RIP SLYME and their Baby sister group HALCALI are good examples groups that are rather "themselves"/original.

I'm gonna post personal favs for both groups so feel how you may.

I most certainly would call the group a pop group but Haruka and Yukari both are very talented MC and it shows more in their sophomore album than in their later works.

RIP is simply a very experimental group.

Isn't that an oxymoron? I mean they are talented and all but it just doesn't fit.

This mini video documenter maybe can explain you a lil bit other side of Japanese culture.

  5. I don't dislike rap since I've been forced to listen to it constantly. Not a fan of waka flaka, gucci mane, OJ da juiceman, or any other rapper that relies on two syllable sayings though. Kotton Mouth Kings can't rap but they've grown on me over the past 8 years and their live shows have a lot of energy. Aesop Rock I think is a very good rapper.

Hilltop hoods is an Australian rock/hip hop band I think their style is very unique.

I watched a little doc on current about the rap scene in Japan. I liked the way it sounded. But it may take a bit for the woman to properly dance to it lol.

It's the same they said in the early 80's about asian metal, but they could pull it off (see Loudness and the like). So why not with rap?

Because rap is not something smart people usually are associatd with. Linkin Park is a prime example who raps about how overbearing their parents are when they are 30?

    AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Oh you jew....

I wanna say that they're probably hoping that those lyrics would appeal to rebellious(spoilt) kids who keep crying about how their lives suck, even though the only blood they ever shed is from their own cutting, not getting shot at like in Iraq or getting raped in Congo.

But ahh, I hate Linkin Pork anyway so there.

Hope KMK stops growing on you. On the west coast KMK is regarded as a white trash group liked by the people who live out in the 909.

Yes because the place you get shot in is Iraq and you only get raped if you're in Congo and all kids are spoiled and have perfect lifes.

I know 90% of rap is about the hood and they probably can't relate to that lifestyle in japan but I was wondering if they have their own style of rap. I've seen some hip hop opening songs and ending songs for anime but never a rap-theme song. I tried finding this out on my own but sadly my internet-searching skill is limited to... wikipedia.

    Also...

Edit: Oh and stop dissing rap music for Christ sake...Just 'cause some shitty wannabe's got famous it doesn't mean the rest of the genre is as dumb and asocial as them...>___>...

If rap is dumb, rock is satanist, and trance/electro isn't even music.../sarcasm

I mean...that is one group. A pop fusion group as I'd call them. They got 2 emcees, but that just one of the 2 methods of lyrical delivery they use during their songs and their song styling are in a large variety.

I too find the lyrical content to be drab, but people relating their music to it doesn't surprise me.

I don't think people are dumb for simply listening to something I don't agree with or know enough about to understand.

I don't think every Country music lover is a devout christian patriot that doesn't believe in evolution. I don't think every teenager bumping to Selena Gomez is brainwashed by pop culture.

I just know that I don't like that type of music. That's fine too. No need to make excuses.

    Does this count as rap?

Anyway, if you're bored search for more from the same guy. Music is varied.. Dude studied in the states so when he speaks in english it's actually understandable ;)
Got interested in his stuff after the first episode of Shion no ou.. great intro!

I say it to be nice. In reality I've always hated it to it's deepest core. They suck ass and have no talent. I have no idea why my bf likes such shitty music. All that considered I still tried to have a good time at the concert.

And by growing on me i mean in the last 8 years I've been able to listen to it in his car without bursting out laughing, making rude comments, or just not letting him play it. I can tolerate a little. But yes they absolutely suck major balls.

Why what? Why they can't dance? Idk I just think they look awkward. Maybe it's because culturally they are more cute, polite, dainty etc..not something you really see with hip-hop/rap video vixens imho.

Like I think these girls look very awkward.

But ya know there are always exceptions!

  19. Some stuff I listen to:

    Hilcrhyme - Mou Bai Bai

    Hilcrhyme - Travel Machine
( My fav is Riders High tho'...But Youtube doesn't have it >__> )

    Soulja - One Time
( he's usually compared to Eminem 'cause of his song Rain - tho' I heard his influence was DMX...

    Soulja - Rain

    Coma-chi ft AK-69 - Time to Party
( AK-69 has been chosen as one of the most inspiring rappers by listeners...Coma-chi is actually out of my knowledge but I remember reading stuff like she turned "mainstream" and her early works were more "real"...)

Zeebra ft AKTION - Neva Enuff ( OST for movie Brother )

( Old stuff is old, but Zeebra has a cool voice^^ )
Zeebra ft Mummy D, Namie Amuro, AI - Do What You Gotta Do
( MV is usually compared to BEPs Hey Mama )

Megaryu ft Seamo - Love a Love

( Megaryu simply reminds me of summer lol )

Ugh...I have a lot more to show but honestly I'm tired copy-pasting...^^u
[Edit]: Oh and before some point out...Yes, I'm not really listening to indie and stuff 'cause I don't get in touch with it...Most of the music I listen to - even mainstream - are lucky findings, sometimes I need ages to notice one or the other song or artist despite how popular/famous it/he/she is...
