Am I the only one who see the benefits of the destruction of the middlemen?
This is the opportunity for the publishers to move to digital distribution just like what Sony PSP 2.0 is doing.
If I'm one of the publishers I'd even push to create more of those games for the latest iPhone 3GS and distribute them via online. Also, if Apple retains their lead with touchscreen technology then those eroge publishers should take real notice...

Yeah, I don't think eroge are quite mainstream enough outside Japan to catch the attention of Apple. There's no silver lining here, just an industry group caving in to outside pressure from noisy pieces of shit who think they have the right to enforce their standards of decency on what everyone watches or reads.
Well, at least we still have the doujin stuff.

I figure that if all else fails, the production could be outsourced to the US. And then I might be able to get a better job.

Visual novels and eroge on iphone makes sense. Most japs don't even use PC these days.
I mean come on... VNs and eroges in its 2D form SHOULD NOT be CPU intensive and a resource hog. If I'm publisher i will find ways to retain sound and image quality while shrinking the size of them game in terms of few hundred megabytes.
I'll start by using:
- .mp3 audio (music, voices) at 96bit instead of .WAV
- .JPEG picture (background, characters in game) instead of .BMP
- .mp4 video (for the important cut) instead of uncompressed .MPEG2
I don't think it will. I barely think it will have any real effect on the games' content (I think the only real effect will be on rape/sexual abuse). It will be just like this new substrain of H1N1. Hysteria at first, but then you will discover it is not lethal as it seemed (although still pandemic... err, but anyway).
Also, I like playing my eroges on my desktop PC, thank you very much. I don't own (nor pretend to) iPods, iPhones, iLifes, whatever have you.

You obviously missed my first point, the most important one, in that I want (and most other users) their VNs to be on a screen size larger than their hand.
Also if companies aren't willing to defend themselves over this, they probably won't get into the messy legal area of selling software especially for jailbroken iphones.
I'm not saying it can't be done. I'm just saying it would make the eroge experience so much poorer in quality due to it being on a tiny screen.
