Can manga look natural?

  1. Realistic Manga.

    Mm Bayonetta <3

    Eternal Sabbath
    Mars
    Eden
    Angel Heart
    Family Combo

There are lots and lots of more realistic-looking manga.

  2. One of the intersting things about art is that absolute realism is very rarely an attempted goal. I saw a program a while ago about realism in sculpture and it talked about how a lot of the classical Greek and Roman statues look very realistic to the naked eye, but actually have a lot of calculated anatomical inaccuracies such as leg length certain muscles being overdeveloped.

Althoguh on topic, Benny, from Black Lagoon, always struck me as being a particularly realistic character. Explicitly being a male westerner, the artist went out of his way to avoid many of the common moe trappings that are particularly unrealistic. Tytania was another anime that I thought had very realistic artwork, thoguh once again, perdominantly male and predominantly western.

In fact, look at any anime. The males are almost always more anatomically accurate than the females...

  3. I've drawn a picture using this style that I'm talking about. The first example is my previous style (drawn only last week) and the other is what I've drawn tonight. I think the latter example is so much better.

I've always hated the face of the first one - she doesn't look very human but quite fake. The second example looks like a beautiful woman in my opinion

  4. Use the artist thread to share your work, man. Don't just make a new thread everytime you draw something.

This, you should try and keep questions about feedback and all that in there like the others of us do.

Also if you're going for a "natural"(more realistic?) style that body doesn't really work.

  8. That body style looks really stylized and exaggerated. Not necessarily a bad thing but it's nowhere near a natural/realistic style...

That's supposed to be realistic? PFFFFFFFTHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHA Oh, I'm sorry. Not that you don't have skill or anything. But really, saying your stuff is realistic truly is laughable.

didn't realize you were the OP,

if this is the realistic style you were looking for, the drawings you posted definitely don't look close to that.
the style you had going for bayonetta was realistic.

EDIT: the face definitely has an improvement and looks more realistic than the first

  11. Her abdominal cavity either wouldn't be able to contain any vital organs (aka her body wouldn't be able to perform functions required for living), or would be lacking the muscles required to support the fairly large amount of weight from her upper body. Also, the only ways in which breasts and thighs could be maintained at that degree of thickness would be with either massive stores of fat (which would also show up around her midsection), or with fairly massive amounts of surgery.

If that's your taste, well, so be it; however, do not expect anyone to find such a body-type realistic (even by today's standards) much less natural.

EDIT: I just realized you said something about the face. Improved (if your intention is realism), but the body completely draws attention from the face. Also, still not there (imo).

yeah I agree with the above, honestly right now, her body freaks the hell out of me
she'd look a lot more natural like below if you were aiming for realism.

  14. Before I stop replying (since I shouldn't have opened a new thread, sorry)I created two versions of this character since this character is supposed to be very busty.

And besides she has wide hips (a pear shape) not an hour glass so...

And as for realistic, I don't mean in proportions but more as the face, hair etc. Just like Bayonetta had very long legs but in the picture before she looked a little real.

    Bye

I want to test out a style combining manga and natural features (a bit like normal sketching). The result would be a more natural looking character that is still manga.

Look at this image and say if it's manga-esque. If you don't think so imagine it with for example, traditional manga eyes. And comment.

Cool Sketch... How I wish I have talent like yours... Keep it up! :D

  17. Necro threads, gotta love em eh.

Manga, it's anything that doesn't have men in tights and a cape if you ask me.

  19. yes it can, but if it gets too realistic it ceases to be manga and becomes portrait, and weird. Tho it can be done right
