Did you know? --- The Trivia Thread

  1. Yeah, I know something. You're a pussy.

What is the purpose of this thread? Specify please.

    You're telling a cat that he's a pussy?

This is a general purpose thread to post what folks want to discuss, if it doesn't already relate to a current thread.

To discourage random threads from folks that don't know the rules.

If you want to delete it, then by all means go ahead.

Sometimes peeps got something they want to bring up or a secret that isn't personal rather something going on in the world they want to get off of their conscience.
Or leak a juicy bit of news they shouldn't be leaking.

    ------

sorry nyanko sensei is already on the closed family tree thread.... He's mine, rather he should be in the House of Lord Schrobby, Holy High Arch Mage of the Karslandian Imperium

That sounds like a complete asshole thing to do. What the hell is wrong with you guy/girl whose avatar is nyanko-sensei?

The DOE is rumored cutting off funding for Fermilab's Tevatron. For those who don't know, Fermilab is a scientific research center located in Illinois, USA (read: in the vicinity Chicago's O'Hare airport), and the Tevatron is the world's second largest particle accelerator (big physics research thing that non-science people like to imagine 1) is a weapon 2) can make black holes is engulf the Earth).

Why this is a bad thing: cutting off research is always a bad thing, since it can bring about new stuff to make all of our lives better/more interesting.

Why this is a good thing: The DOE shouldn't be involved in operating particle accelerators, groups who actually are responsible for doing research should.

Why you don't care: particle physics rarely generates results that'll impact human lives within our lifetime. And, you actually read past the point where I told you that particle accelerators aren't black-hole weapons of DOOOM.

  6. Bean Knowledge:
In medieval Europe, weather was often very cold and the people had to wear many layers of clothing. However, the only light was from fires, rushlights, and candles. Thus everyone's clothing smelled like smoke. This provided a kind of natural odor-camouflage, so people didn't need much perfume, because everyone smelled like smoke, not sweat.

There are still politicians hauling the corpse around, and every once and a while a neuron fires and a muscle spasms.

Medieval Europe age of consent: 5
Medieval Europe risk of dying before your 30th birthday: 92%
    Medieval Europe uncurable dieseses: uncountable
Medieval Europe chance of being able to smell at all: Prettyyyy low...

It's fine if you're on topic, but there are newer threads that would have served as well.

  15. If they had "news" as one of their tags, they could be easier to find.

On topic: This is a nice thread. Might help keep the clutter to a minimum if kept on the first page and hope that somebody actually reads the thread titles.

Unfortunately, people who start threads seldom tag efficiently, and others are allowed to troll-tag. The search function doesn't always work anyway.

  18. I clicked "news" in the Forum Tags box on the main forum page. This thread was the newest that came up that was originally made for more than one subject.

  19. As I said, there's nothing wrong with reviving an old thread if you have something relevant to add, and the thread hasn't been explicitly replaced.

I would close or delete old threads that I didn't want brought up again, but the people who are in a position to make that decision seem to disagree.
