Future of Japan's economy

  1. If anybody has been catching up with the news recently, you would know that Japan's economy has stagnant for the past 2 decades. Ever since that property bubble in 1986, it seems that Japan is unable to recover.

Unfortunately, it seems likely it is going to stay that way for the next few decades. Japanese people aversion to change and a rapidly ageing and shrinking workforce contribute to a falling productivity among Japanese workers.

If they continue this way, it likely their economy will be overtaken by Brazil, Russia and even third world nations like Indonesia. By then, I wonder what kind of nation oJapan will be? What effect it will have on anime?

  5. Meh. The balance of power in human civilization across the globe has been rising and falling everywhere for thousands of years. The last half century or so was dominated by the US, Japan, France, Britain, Soviets before collapse, etc. Compared to past superpowers, the current group is just a drop in the bucket. And correct me if I'm wrong, but China is the oldest human society that still exists in any meaningful way, yes?

Those tribes in Africa that haven't changed for some 100,000 years are great and all, but they're useless on the global stage. Its just another cycle of rising to power for China... And I'm sure China will just absorb the anime industry if there's money to be had. It might be weird hearing Chinese instead of Japanese while reading subs, but we'll survive. I'm sure Japan will just become another battlefield for the inevitable conflict between China and the US some time this century for supremacy in the Pacific, and little more than a bitter and isolated island nation in the aftermath.

  6. The only thing that concerns me is the value of the yen against the dollar. At the moment, 1 dollar is roughly equal to 80 yen. So a figure that costs 8,000yen is costing me $100 plus exorbitant shipping. The failing US economy is also to blame for my high fees too of course.

    Sorry for bein' selfish.

    nope this is

    also: this

The Yayoi (Mongoloid Koreans) moved into Japan a few thousand years ago, and all the evidence is that that the Samurai classes have a lot of Ainu ancestry in them. This would suggest it was a population movement, not some military conquest on the part of the Yayoi.

Lol. The falling US dollar is the reason why I sometimes buy stuff from Play-Asia.

  9. Notice how I said in any meaningful way? As in, still have a nation/national identity and all that? I know the Chinese weren't the first to start banging rocks together and stacking them on top of each other to honor twinkling lights in the sky.

I'm still quite angry with play-asia right now due to an order mishap, so I wouldn't go to them for figures if I can avoid it. Their stock is pretty random anyways. You're going to end up paying for the inflation one way or another, since the stores will just raise their prices to match the inflation. Buying from a US based store is no better. I like how HLJ is lowering their prices to help combat the raising yen. But even that doesn't make much difference when you consider that HS and Ami are already lowering their prices.

Unfortunately, even if we are armed with a degree from Oxford, the only job we can do there is be an English teacher.

Judging by the apparent promiscuity of Japanese schoolgirls, why is that a problem exactly?

  19. Japan is going have to be more open to other cultures as this is the world we live in today.

The people need to be more individualistic as the era of a job for life is over.
Today people need to be flexible and be able to adapt to change.

Japan also needs some sorta Apollo goal like what the US had in the 60s.
Maybe energy independence or one upping the Chinese space efforts.
The latter actually would be pretty easy considering the specs of the HIIB which are comparable to a US EELV or Falcon 9.

They could buy/license one of the many commercial spacecraft under development in the US.

Because it's a blow off job for a blow off class that very few really give a shit about.

Personally I would rather do something more meaningful.
