Two of my favorite mangas! They are awesome! And these are the kind of small eyes I like.

I don't want to start a quarrel, but I honestly have to point out how contradictory you're being. First you're on about how people should limit their art style to one or two options, but then you're talking about how the very thing you just mentioned is destroying the industry. Well, more or less. At least the point about context made some good sense and I've got to say I agree with you a bit on that one.
...thoouuuuugh honestly I think it's very possible to make a horror series with a somewhat goofy art style. Take Yuji Iwahara's King of Thorn for example.
Hm. I guess my example is more suspenseful than scary though... I don't remember feeling really scared.
I know its possible, but to make horror comics, I think that a more realistyc style ( with smaller eyes ) always will look better! I mean, animes like High School of the Dead are meant to be scary, but the drawings is too ´´cartoony
r
to take it seriously as a horror title ( that and the fanservice just ruins the action scenes... and dramatic scenes... and regular scenes... )Posted 5 years ago # -
Even the simpsons and mikey mouse have big eyes.

Heheh GREAT example with High School of The Dead. Fanservice can kill a lot of good scenes; Still though, illustration is illustration. It's there to illustrate the visual half of the writing. If it fails to do this because it throws in unfitting content everywhere of course it's going to be bad, but if it keeps it simple and sticks to the point (and if the writing is good) then shouldn't the art style itself not be that big of a deal?
*shrug*
I guess I might also point out that excessive gore is itself a form of fan service, as it doesn't do anything to further the story and seems only to be there for the amusement of the viewer.
Er... not that I think violence is bad. It'd be kinda weird to see a horror without violence.

Maybe the goofyness of the characters style helps lighten the mood.Well yeah quite a bit, but it didn't change the fact that all the main characters where dieing one by one of an incurable virus wile being hunted relentlessly by mutated abominations. ^~^;;
Even though the monsters where admittedly pretty adorable...

When I look at most of the examples in here it feels so odd reading the title as small eyes, they look rather normal sized to me!
But I guess they count as small in the world of drawing...Posted 5 years ago # -

I think small eyes are Miyazaki's trademark.Miyazaki does a lot of young faces with rather realistic eyes.
For one thing, they don't have huge eyelashes.
Some of the shows that cater to more of a young-male market show faces with much more muscle definition. Of course, those shows tend to have more male characters, because very few healthy young women have bony or muscular faces.

Look at your avatar for an example of "big"Well those are rather large. Thing is that when I look at the small eyes in here they seems to be normal sized, or "medium", since they're more proportional with general human anatomy.
When I think about small eyes I imagine something that is much smaller than the general human eye.
But that's just me.
