Oh shit, I forgot about this thread! Anyways, Japan had Marines a long time ago. But their current military is laughably bad.

I hope I'm not coming off as too Hooah. I apologize if I am. And I know hooah isn't a Marine Corp phrase but it's way more versatile than Oorah.

Japan's military is larger than Britain's, but it's not taken seriously enough to be an actual military force. It's just a jobs program to many, despite all the tanks, the fighters, and bombs, and the combat training they get. Living under the US defense umbrella puts that mentality in a country.

They definitely need some new blood in there. The average is like between 30-40...

Given that ageing population, I think the average will increase.

    Meowers -

I had 2 uncles that were in the 442nd. One is interred at Punchbowl Memorial in Oahu. The other is still kickin,... okay - he's rollin, he coasts around on one of those electric thangs that old folks use to putter around on (mostly coz he left a leg in France).

Yah, the Japanese on my mom's side of the family were at Manzanar.
Oh and one step brother was a pilot for the Hawaii National Guard (he was an F-15 driver).

    ^_^

On my dads side of the family, one of my uncles was an instructor at the USAF Academy in Colorado. Now he's a retired 1 star.
One of my step brothers is still in the US Navy (a sub subcommander, still a junior officer got busted down three times). I have a neice that is in the Marines (she's Chinese/Hawaiian/Spanish).

Wow. That's quite a long military history in the family. I can't say the same with my family as only my (American) grandad was in the USCG. He used to make up lies about what he did in Vietnam so you can't say my family pushed me into it.

You seem to have a lot of USAF in your family. A few years ago I made the switch (much against the advice of my parents) to the Marines from the Air Force. I always wanted to be a flyboy but my eyes are shot to hell. So five years ago I decided I would try for Pararescue but after talking to a few former Marines and researching them I decided that the Marines sounded a lot better.

I figured posting "doesn't currently have..." would've been redundant.

    Sorry. My bad.

  4. My dad was an Army ground pounder during the Korean conflict, while he did his bit of service he expected to get shipped to Korea, unfortunately his unit was stationed in Alaska,.. When re upped, they sent his unit to Germany.
Since he was fluent in Chinese & Korean. But just lucked out you could say. Although serving in Alaska wasn't in my opinion "lucking out".
