Wow.. I would have never imagined the japanese armed forces (by the way, they're called self defense forces) only consisted of 19 marines...

    They must be wicked awesome!

No, I'm talking about the USMC. As in American citizens of Japanese descent joining the Corps. And I know quite a bit about the JSDF, USFJ and their alliance. Japan hasn't had Marines since the Imperial Navy.

OK, got it. Just be a little bit more specific with the country next time. Not everybody in this place comes from your country...

Personally, sounds like a good nickname, though from what I know, you earn nicknames not decide them yourself.

That's a big two scoops of Hooah right there.

From my estimates, (I get frequent KIA information from the DOD on my blackberry), you join the USMC now, you got about a 75% chance of getting injured in combat, 35% chance of getting a injury that causes you to get discharged, and 20% of dying in combat.

That's pretty fucking high compared to the Military's estimates, maybe I'm being too harsh.

Join the Army. Even though we're at 100% man power, we always could use a new barrier fodder.

Just fucking with ya recruit. Have a great time in the Corps.

  5. Marines are too conservative for me,
if I ever do join the military it will likely be in the Army as a tankist

(pending I pass the required ASVAB scores)

A tankist? You have a long way to go. C'mon, a little bleed-out is what your medic is there for.

If you don't pass the ASVAB you're likely retarded. (or dyslexic...)

If you want less conservative than the marines, join the peace corps... or the Air force. lol

Haha thanks bro. I don't think I'll die, granted I only have to get my Sergeant rank before hitting DI school.

Oh and to the maid person up there is was pretty obvious it was the US, even if you didn't click the link.

Japan doesn't have a Marine Corps that I'm aware of...

Even if you aren't American, it should be fairly obvious what he's referring to.

Oh shit, I forgot about this thread! Anyways, Japan had Marines a long time ago. But their current military is laughably bad.

I hope I'm not coming off as too Hooah. I apologize if I am. And I know hooah isn't a Marine Corp phrase but it's way more versatile than Oorah.

I was shocked to find out there was only 19 Japanese Marines ever. I mean, after 200+ years of existence and the large Japanese influence in the Army, (GEN Eric Shinseki, Former Army Chief of Staff, Ranger, West Point graduate, and general badass)that there was only 19, ever.

    Sauce here:[url=http://www.discovernikkei.org/en/resources/military/search/?keywords=&name=&gender=&birth_year=&birth_place=&induction_year=&enlistment_type=&service_branch=usmc&service_type=&unit_type=&units_served=&countries=&separation_year=]

Some of these people are literally Aryan though.

I guess, with my impending enlistment and all, a good nickname would be "20." What do you guys think?

I thought they had whole platoons of just Japanese soldiers in WWII? Although I guess those weren't marines so...nevermind, I'm retarded.

  15. Meowers -

I had 2 uncles that were in the 442nd. One is interred at Punchbowl Memorial in Oahu. The other is still kickin,... okay - he's rollin, he coasts around on one of those electric thangs that old folks use to putter around on (mostly coz he left a leg in France).

Yah, the Japanese on my mom's side of the family were at Manzanar.
Oh and one step brother was a pilot for the Hawaii National Guard (he was an F-15 driver).

    ^_^

On my dads side of the family, one of my uncles was an instructor at the USAF Academy in Colorado. Now he's a retired 1 star.
One of my step brothers is still in the US Navy (a sub subcommander, still a junior officer got busted down three times). I have a neice that is in the Marines (she's Chinese/Hawaiian/Spanish).

Did your uncle got any purple hearts or any sort of award? From what I heard about 442nd, it was a unit filled with rambo like soldiers.

  17. Both of their dress uniforms had loads of serivce ribbons. Some of which have a corresponding medal, the one that is still alive has his medals tucked away in a shoe box somewhere. He doesn't like to brag as much as the other old veteran codgers. But he did proudly wear the ribbons. The 442nd was the most decorated unit after all.

They had to be gung-ho, because they had to prove that they were just as patriotic as any other ground pounder. While their families were interred in camps.
