But I do understand collecting DVDs and mangas...

Collecting figurines or even posters is one way of decorating your house or living room. But to me they're just unneeded clutter. I'm a minimalist and I want my house simple and easy to maintain

You see, I turn Jewish when it comes to managing my money. I save as much as I can.

  2. I too enjoy keeping free of clutter. I might collect nendoroids though, if I felt like giving up the money.

  3. Lol ... I guess you could say its a hobby ... lets say its not different from collecting

    - Coins/ Money from around the world (except this takes up less space...)
    - Gundams , seriously its very similar

In the end its a hobby, something to collect or maybe some people just buy it b/c they look cool ... or hot or something inbetween those lines?

I dunno, I buy them just because ... they look ... er nice? lol

And sure they do tend to COST A LOT of money , especially when you have to mail it overseas or something ... but I tend to buy them at a slow pace, rather than buying them non-stop until my wallet runs dry (no impulse buying lol)

  4. I wouldn't buy any figurine whose character I didn't like a lot. So while I do have some, it's only of my very favourite characters. There's something to be said about a small battalion of gorgeous anime girls smiling (and often panchira-ing) at you from the top of your CRT or shelf - well, I for one am the type that gets cheered up by that sort of thing.

Yeah, but I like the scowling ones, too! Tsundere panchira is teh best for getting work de-strest!

  6. why? its no different from any other hobby? why collect books (in my case managa)? why buy dvds? why go out and get drunk every night partying? everyone enjoys things, has hobbies and things they want to do with there spending money. i collect managa, anime dvds and figures. i couldent see why anyone would want to go out and party every night. hypertheticaly you might see the merit in constant partying, but i dont, just like you hypertheticaly dont see why anyone would like anime figures.

  7. Indeed, it's always pleasant to be greeted in the morning by an army of your favorite anime girls.

Which reminds me, I still don't have an Index one yet..

  8. Well I for one plan to sell some of my rarer ones such as my Lancelot in royal pearlescent coating one day. It is always nice to wake up in the morning and see you favorite characters staring at you except you only occasionally look back at them. Makes me feel fuzzy inside.

Also its nice to look up to see this looking back at you when you dont have anything to do.

  9. It's the best example of commodity fetishism. The relationship between the product and the consumer is taken to a new, almost personal, level.

I feel the same way, but I also feel the same way as the OP. I'm a total jew when it comes to my money, so I feel decorative wise wallscrolls and posters are more economical :v

When I see this (below) on my wall everyday, it definitely cheers me up.

  12. ^ Gotta love how Kyon's sister is there.

DVDs are for pirating. Figurines are for buying.

  13. Hehe, Kyon's sister looks so cute in bunny suit =P...

Idk, I think figurines are sorta like a physical representation of the 2D characters that one likes. I mean, sure, you can always look at your computer screen or something, but having it there in 3D is just so different... it like brings "life" to the character almost. Makes it more than just some pixels on the screen or ink on paper.

Plus, good figurines look very cute ^^... idk, I don't have a fetish for them, but I find them very exquisite and something that makes me feel happy when I look at them.

  14. I personally don't like figurines unless they're very well done, and I don't collect any myself. They're just pieces of plastic to me, and I'd rather watch them move on a screen or hear them talk, even if they're 2D and intangible. Figurines also tend to gather a lot of dust from what I can see, unless you can seal them away in a display cabinet or something.

  15. People that are not into figures are actually lucky in my opinion, as they would have one less thing bleeding their wallet for. Collecting figure is an expensive hobby.

I already spent quite a bit of money on figures, and most likely will continue to bleed my wallet more on them in the future. But I guess spending the money on figures beats spending it cigarettes...at least it won't kill me (good thing I don't smoke like most people do) XD

Compressed air ftw!... those things work miracles...

Though it is true; I wouldn't want to spend like a few hundred bucks on a crappily done figurine... but if it's worth it, then I'm willing to spend.

Depending on what figures you are referring to...most 1/8 PVC figures won't cost over a hundred bucks.

Well, at least I know I will be bleeding my wallet again when the Saber Lily figure by Good Smile Company is out...

Haha, yah, I was exaggerating... but you get my point. $50+ for a piece of plastic doesn't really seem worth it unless there is actually some craftsmanship involved.

Nice figure of saber though Oo...

  19. Yea I know it's a waste of money but for characters I really like alot then I tend to buy everything of them ( -_-). I mean I spent 300 on an Eureka 7 artbook because I loved the show. I am all over that Saber figurine.

  20. I get that same feeling. Even if I bought one, i wouldn't know where to put in and it would probably get in the way. They can also get pretty expensive (I also a minimalist). But I think the main reason I don't buy them is because I'm scared I'm going to want more. If you buy a part of a collection you have to buy the whole thing. If you have 1 collection, you're going to want something to accompany it. I can't afford that kind of life.
