I'm just saying man, you guys are crying out "Murder her! Rape her! Torture her! We must group together and destroy her!"

Yet when Japan does the same thing (oh wait, it actually takes much longer and a lot more suffering to kill a whale or dolphin), and groups like Sea Shepherd rally to defend the whales, you rise up and cry, "OMG hippies! Who cares! Nutjobs!"

So what's the deal? Dolphins and whales aren't as cute as bunnies? Bunnies don't provide mercury tainted food for you to feed your children (even though it is a fact the demand for dolphin in Japan is right around nill and most are killed as a supposed pest control measure)? I don't get why there is such a double standard.

In reality there is a huge stockpile of whale meat in Japan due to lack of demand (something like less than 2% of the population still eats whale in Japan).

I'll agree if you can post some evidence giving a direct relation to Japan's consumption and whales' dwindling population.

These are Japanese, man. They're not dumb enough just to catch whales like there's no tomorrow. I bet they constantly monitor and regulate to have minimal impact on its population. Besides, they'll be also the ones who will suffer if they killed em all. I also bet that if it is feasible, they could have put up whale farms.

EDIT: Whoops, looks like I missed the point. Well the drama of killing a whale is a given, I don't think you can just sedate a gargantuan and kill it afterwards. But at least they didn't post it online (none that I, or for the sake of perspective, the majority heard of).

One is an act of cruelty for self gratification. The other is for food (might want to visit a slaughter house, it is not pretty but that's how a cow becomes a burger).

Also the whales in question are anything but in danger. This was discussed when the issue first came up.

For the purpose of aruguing with members you started a thread...seems like your point was stricken invalid from the start.

People like me don't care about bunnies or humans or dolphins. The only time this becomes an issue is when they are about to become extinct. Humans, Dolphins, and god forbid, Bunnies are NOT about to become extinct, so there really is no reason to care AT ALL.

All that fucking TV show did was garner great ratings, which in turn gives big money back to the corporations, who in turn destroy the world. This whole subject is void.

Despite the fact that most whale species are in fact, at record lows, with exception of the Minke (which Japan currently hunts). However Japan has recently added the Humpback, and reportedly wishes to add other currently threatened or endangered species to it's quota.

What, 200000 whales in one species qualifies as endangered? When only 2000 of that species are hunted each season, and at least 1/3 of that 200000 replenishes every mating season? Fucking stupid non-researching hippies.
