Us goverment to vote for internet censorship bill S. 3804.

  1. First off let me say this: This is not spam or a troll. I don't see any news of this anywhere so I thought(selfishly) people might want to know what is happing. If this is a bother to this site I will be more then glad to delete this post. Now onto the facts:

The Senate Judiciary Committee has scheduled a markup Nov. 18 on S. 3804, Combating On-line Infringement and Counterfeits Act.

Remember to contact your representatives to let them know your opinion on the proposed bill. To find out who are the senators on your state and their contact information, you can visit the U.S. Senate website, by clicking here [url=http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm]

In the United States, a new law proposal called The Combating On-line Infringement and Counterfeits Act (COICA) was introduced last week, and there will be a hearing in front of the Judiciary Committee this Thursday.

If passed, this law will allow the government, under the command of the media companies, to censor the internet as they see fit, like China and Iran do, with the difference that the sites they decide to censor will be completely removed from the internet and not just in the US.

Please see the following article from the Huffington Post for more information.

And if you are a US citizen, please take the time to sign this petition

    update:
the Senate Judiciary Committee postponed the scheduled markup of the Internet censorship bill — a fantastic outcome, given that the entertainment industry and their allies in Congress had hoped this bill would be quickly approved before the Senators went home for the October recess. Massive thanks to all who used the EFF Action Center to write to your Senators to oppose this bill.

  5. FUD

This bill would only blacklist sites which deal in counterfeit goods and copyright infringements. Sites which are located outside the United States would be blocked from sending goods into the country.

There is no provision for any kind of censorship and international websites would definitely not be removed from the Internet.
    Read it for yourself.

    Go play chicken little elsewhere.

    Fair Use Act

Each copyright holder would first have to send a cease and decist warning and Artefact would have to refuse to comply before the site would be taken down.

I like my fan sub. If this goes though then there will be no more fan subs. Not all anime is licensed here in America you know. Can you find me a official R1 Macross Frontier DVD or Blu-ray?
And what about AMVs and Fan dubs or hentai manga and anime.
And that Fair Use Act thing is total shit. I've see review video getting taking down all the time with only a few second of anime forage or screen shot pictures over copyright reasons.

  16. Yes this would indeed be a very bad thing I read the bill and we should oppose it.

  19. I going to commit copyright infringement. I'm going to watch Toaru Majutsu no Index II fansub then read some manga that is unavailable here in the US.

I'm sure Palmtop Tiger does nothing like that, right?
