Just to play Devil's advocate, what about things that present a clear and present danger? Should falsely shouting fire in a theater be protected under the first amendment? Censorship has such a negative connotation that people forget how it protects them everyday. If it wasn't for limits on some of our freedoms, there would be an epidemic of abuse.

Lobbyists do support the interests of people, however since not everyone thinks the same politically, people lobby for different things. If listening to a lobbyman is betrayal on the part of the senator, then we are effectively limiting a projection of our interests to the government.
