Otaku are being supported in their battle against what they see as the unfounded bias against relationships with 2D characters, exemplified by the glamourisation of relationships with real women visible in events such as Valentine’s Day, by a not unlikely ally: top doujinshi retailer Mandarake has devoted its flaghip Akiba store’s famed show window to an exhibition of all the best 2D wives an otaku could hope to collect.

A release of 4 different Touhou shirts depicting the yukkuri meme are enjoying respectable popularity in Akiba.

Combining some of the most tired Japan related memes available, “strange items sold from vending machines – only in Japan!” and “things which shouldn’t be canned but are anyway – crazy Japanese!”, along with moe marketing, this Touhou tea-in-a-can vending machine looks set to become a favourite for desperate Akiba news sites.
The vending machine is currently operational in central Akihabara near all the interesting PC parts shops (right by T-Zone it would appear), so some of you may wish to pay a visit, if only to gawp.

A conflagration erupted at an Akihabara construction injured nine and caused spectacular scenes as emergency personnel and their vehicles packed streets and smoke clogged the air.
Nine construction workers were hospitalized with injuries from smoke inhalation, and one man was severely injured by same.

A major Akiba “massage” parlour offering the experience of sex with maids, cosplayers and crossdressers, has been shut down by police, and its management arrested.
The establishment, which served upwards of 30 patrons daily and had revenues of some ¥540,000,000 over 3 years, was found by police to be in violation of various regulations forbidding such enterprises in Akiba.
