Yukata Elite Gallery

Gallery of beautiful Japanese girls wearing yukata, kimono and other items of wafuku, with miko added - 浴衣などの和服を着ている美女・別嬪ギャラリ

Here is another fine gallery of exceptionally beautiful girls wearing yukata, kimono, and various tasteful accoutrements of traditional Japanese attire, although some of the girls do seem to be distinctly not wearing their yukata.

Cities Look to Ban Late Night Shopping

Cities Look to Ban Late Night Shopping - 24/7 convenience stores face restrictions in Japan?

Citing concerns over global warming, politicians in several large Japanese cities have started talking about banning or harshly regulating convenience stores open late at night, or 24/7. The areas pushing this, with Kyoto, Saitama and Kanagawa mentioned, seem to be looking to burnish their credentials as “model” environmentally friendly cities, whatever the inconvenience and cost to inhabitants and local businesses.

Hentai Rag Forced to Back Down

Mainichi Daily News WaiWai has made a habit of creatively interpreting and translating stories (falsifying might be more accurate) under the direction of editor Ryann Connell

Ultra lowbrow English language tabloid WaiWai, a part of the Mainichi Daily News and known for its extremely liberal handling of source material in pursuit of page hits (if not outright fictional news), has been forced to back down over its more extreme stories (examples below) thanks to a sustained campaign waged by 2chers and others, which finally began to break through into the mass media. Several of their more egregious stories have now been pulled.

Station Dungeons

Shibuya Station/Dungeon/Labyrinth in 3d

This intimidating three dimensional map is Shibuya station, with the latest addition of the Fukutoshin Line; to say it has a complex layout is an understatement.

Some fantastic maps of labyrinthine Japanese subway and rail stations have been gathered by a conscientious soul here, and what struck him (and me, and likely you too) was not only the terrifying complexity of most of the larger stations, but also how extraordinarily reminiscent the maps are of something you might find in a game, or perhaps a nightmare, although I think few games would dare approach the complexity of layout in their dungeons visible here.

Teacher Loses Finger to Pupil

Teacher Loses Finger to Pupil - illustration by Otaku Beam

A lady teacher who scolded some pupils not in class lost her index finger when one of the boys ran off, slamming the door on her finger and severing it. The boy was subsequently given a stern talking to for defingering the teacher, the local Board of Education tells us, saying “it wasn’t a deliberate effort on his part to injure her, but he should’ve realised an accident was likely; he’s been given an oral warning”.

There was however a happy side to the affair: the teacher was a PE teacher. Perhaps this explains the Board’s in this case justifiably lenient response.

Greenpeace Thieves After All?

"Greenpeace" and "Green Peas" are homophones in Japanese so maybe that explains why they aren't taken as seriously in Japan?

The Greenpeace activists cum burglars who stole whale meat from a shipping company in an earlier publicity stunt have just had arrest warrants served on them, we hear. Aomori police intend to arrest two people involved on the morrow, on suspicion of theft. Of course they are innocent until proven guilty, but Japanese arrests usually result in conviction. Via TBS.

Corporal punishment practiced by Evangelion girls Asuka and Rei, image by master spanking artist/atelier Erika's Co So Ad

“Can’t we institute the rule of the fist here in Miyazaki prefecture?” With these words the prefectural governor made a call for the reinstitution of corporal punishment in schools, long abolished. “What’s to become of the position of school teachers now they can’t even mete out corporal punishment? Can’t we at least permit the loving rod, that surely deserves no punishment?”

“It’s undesirable for elementary schoolers to possess mobile phones”.
