Leaf eroge White Album is set to get adaptations to both anime and PS3. The anime is set to air in January, whilst the PS3 game has a nonspecific 2009 release. Production staff for the anime have been confirmed (most notably the director has some involvement in Nanoha Strikers, and the writer was involved in Key The Metal Idol), but the cast is not yet finalised.

Ero comedy Kanokon has seemingly completed its transformation into a complete erotic anime with the release of the first erotically upgraded DVD edition: now nothing is left to the imagination, and as you can see from the earlier gallery, it was hardly tame to begin with; no wonder it was so popular with elementary schoolers. The Limited Edition release apparently includes even more steamy extras in excess of the normal release.
Poor Juno can’t show them uncensored, but rest assured the DVD is not subject to this restraint. Via the lovely NekoAreBlog – some more shots there.

Air dates for upcoming SF anime タイタニア / Tytania have been released by NHK; the anime is an adaptation of highly acclaimed author 田中芳樹 / Yoshiki Tanaka’s space opera novels of the same name, and so at least has promising source material. His other notable works include 銀河英雄伝説 / Legend of the Galactic Heroes and アルスラーン戦記 / Arslan Senki.
Air details are that it is set to air on NHK BS2 at 23:32 each Thursday, starting in October.
Visual details of the anime seem a little scarce at moment (in fact completely absent), so we’ll just have to wait and see how it turns out.

DVD and video industry group the Japan Video Software Association (JVA) has issued a long and unambiguously worded complaint to the effect that personal recording of shows, particularly anime, damages its potential bottom line, so can’t something be done to rectify this, preferably involving payout to the JVA.
Close reading of their demands in fact reveals their sales are healthy, but they are being damaged “potentially”.

Head of top Anime TV station Animax, 滝山雅夫 / Masao Toyama, has said his greatest fear is that anime will lose popularity amongst the young, and seems set on trying to rectify matters, if in a modest way.
His statement was made amidst celebration of Animax’s tenth anniversary, with a long and glorious stable of anime (Dragonball, Gundam, etc.) stretching out behind it, mostly being distributed on a tried and true fee based model.

Lucky Star and Rozen Maiden collide in this series of videos, executed quite skilfully; number four just came out. The nonchalance exhibited by the goth loli girls is quite something to behold… Spotted here.

In a rather unusual turn of events, the release date for the impending Lucky Star OVA has been pushed back an entire month, from August 29th to September 26th. The change has shown up in several different shops, so it can likely be taken as genuine. There is no official statement on why at this time, so we’ll just have to speculate wildly.
There was some interesting talk on 2ch that this could be connected to revisions after the recent incident, but of course that is pure speculation. Via 2ch, visible here.

In their “Intellectual Property Strategic Program 2008”, the Japanese government proposes measures for curbing the unauthorised online sharing and distribution of anime and manga, in what could very well turn out to be an assault on fansubbing and the sharing of anime and other Japanese cultural products.

Being something of a fan of 鋼の錬金術師 / Full Metal Alchemist, I couldn’t help but have my eye caught by this massive limited edition 28 disc box set; it contains the full 51 episodes on DVD, a Blu-Ray version of the FMA film Conqueror of Shamballa, the Premium Collection OVA (didn’t even know there was an OVA) and a special feature disc, for a total of 20 AV DVDs, and has a further 8 music CDs.
Naturally the entire thing is lavishly presented with extra art, goods, etc. The only thing they’ve missed are the games and drama CDs, and of course the manga side of things.
The set is due to go on sale at the end of January, with a reservation required to get a set, closing at the end of September. The only thing as eye opening as the size of this set is the price – ¥65,000 list, although it can be had online for much cheaper. Personally, I will stick to reading the excellent manga…

Necrophile child eater and apparent otaku psychopath 宮﨑勤 / Tsutomu Miyazaki, who was hanged recently after languishing on death row for ten years, apparently spent his years in solitary confinement reading manga and watching anime, it has been revealed by a recipient of his letters.

An interesting editorial from Young Magazine, which is rather critical of the propensity of seiyuu to go into detail about their characters in interviews and similar, comes to my attention. Rendered into English:
It’s my opinion that lately seiyuu have gotten carried away with themselves.
They get on TV and talk all about their character’s feelings and background like they’re the original authors. Nobody says this, but when I see them do it I think “but you didn’t create the character, did you?” What I’m trying to say is that I’d like to see more of those seiyuu who behave like they’re being granted the privilege of playing a role.

Firstly, a girl (17), who posted messages to a bulletin board stating that she would perpetrate a massacre at a local train station which would put the recent Akiba rampage to shame, has been charged with a misdemeanour. She claimed she did it as a prank. Read the rest of this entry »
