Square Enix can’t seem to keep itself out of trouble lately, as the struggling company recently posted a tweet featuring gameplay for the upcoming Final Fantasy XVI, only to immediately delete it after fans pointed out that it was “too dark” to see what was going on.
In the now-deleted tweet, a few fans were arguing about the lighting of the footage:
Fan 1: It looks too dark, why would you go out of your way to release a video that would bring you hate?
Fan 2: It looks super bright to me. Maybe it’s only dark because of a TN monitor? Poor you, can’t even notice that it only looks dark because of your own device.
Fan 1: IPS monitor, and also looking through an iPhone 14 Pro and it’s still dark. Everyone else is saying that it’s dark, so why don’t you take notice? Perhaps you’re too stupid.
Fan 2: Because only idiots are vocal. 99% of the people don’t have any problems and stay quiet while 1% say it’s dark so the majority get the wrong idea. Poor you, so vocal yet you can’t notice that you’re in the wrong.
Twitter user (fan 2) arguing that it looked “super bright” went on to make a poll asking others if it looked dark or bright, only to have it backfire after 97% of 1,037 entries agreed that the gameplay looked way too dark to see.
The above screencap shows a look at the deleted footage. Some Twitter users also pointed out that “whoever was in charge of placing the lamps should be fired” because they didn’t do anything to help the lighting situation. Square Enix deleted the tweet while discussions were being had about the poor lighting and have yet to re-upload the gameplay video.
In Famitsu’s world-first gameplay of Final Fantasy XVI, fans also pointed out that it looked too dark to see what was happening in the game.
Final Fantasy XVI is scheduled to be released for the PlayStation 5 on June 22, 2023.
I despise how modern games just remove anything fun or interesting.

Do you know why it doesn’t have (Colorful backdrops)?
First, it saves on graphic work on background and objects and hiding bad textures.
Second it’s clear, this saves GPU memory, the game came out too heavy and consoles only run optimizing.
Square must be terrified if one of the company’s flagships goes down again (FF15 didn’t have good sales either). Maybe it won’t recover anymore.

Don’t know why but actually do everything WORK, SJW hate is boost the sales, the more they hate it they more the game sell like hot cakes, the more they scheme hate they more money in dev’s pockets. In contrast, anything they love or praise will throw into garbage can and dev got scrap.
So what is stopping you from making games that have all those features?

It’s why Forespoken was often compared unfavorably with Hi-Fi Rush. The former had a high amount of graphical fidelity but no unique art design that gave it any real identiy amongst the other medieval-themed open world RPGs.
It seemed they were really hoping that the snarky isekai protagonist was going to help distingush it from other titles. You know the other Square(Enix) game that tried to do that? Secret of Evermore, aka the Secret of Mana game we all forgot over the more colorful, visual interesting and immediately identifiable Mana games.

I’m actually following the game so i managed to catch it before they deleted it and i didn’t like what i was seeing. What i don’t like is how mundane it speaks of the industry because all the promotion towards the game is how it is a more mature FF game so that means let’s darken up everything to make it as literally dark as possible. I am kind of glad there was enough criticism because it just looked dull.
I am reminded of redlettermedia lambasting the justice league film and bringing up the fact it’s “darker” only for rich to then clarify it was dark in visuals making it nearly impossible to make out wtf is going on.

This s♥♥t isn’t a JRPG or even a Japanese game. It’s one of SE’s ideas of how to please the western gamers.
The game simply has no appeal. Dark and drab visuals. Boring world design. No cute female party members. It’s literally a worthless game with zero reasons to purchase. Just like 99% of everything else releasing nowadays.
